Setting up Leaving home lights on a FL via VCDS

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I know this has been covered a lot over the years, but I couldn't quite find the answer I needed having found a lot of material on here after a search.

Thanks to Jonny5ive I now have coming home lights active when you flick the main beam stalk before exiting the car.

The one thing we were struggling with was leaving home lights. These do not activate upon unlocking the car, even with the headlamp switch left in the on position.

The car in question is an Elegance with rain/light sensor and no auto light switch.

We set the coding up as per past topics with activation left personal rather than via sensor. We did try and test the sensor, covering it completely, but this bore no effect.

I've seen people state that with the light switch left on, if you unlock the car during the day, the light sensor will deactivate the LH lights, due to daylight detection. Do the same at night and the lights will activate.

I've also seen people say that even if you don't leave the headlamp switch in the on position the LH/CH will work on vehicles with no auto lights.

My questions are:

What's the definitive answer for how the CH/LH lights work?

What bits of the coding need adjustment to get the functionality as per the answer to the above question?

Thanks in advance.

Karl

I have exactly the same problem with my car as you do, mine have been activated via VCDS by a member on here but don't work.

Anybody shine any light on this or is it unfortunate that these options don't work on the facelift mk2 model.

Saying that though Karl I haven't tried flashing the main beam to see if that works for the coming home lights on mine.

Bit disappointing really as I presumed they would work with no needs to do anything, the above, to get them to work.

Just as a data point, my FL elegance has the auto lights with CH/LH which both work as I'd expect. When dark and I unlock the car the lights come on and when I get out of the car the lights turn on, the duration of which is all settable via the maxidot - vcds coding is:

Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) Labels: 1K0-937-08x-09.clb
   Part No SW: 1K0 937 087 Q HW: 1K0 937 087 Q
   Component: BCM PQ35 H 110 0651
   Revision: 00110 AC
   Coding: 48000AB8E05BB1C040080080110001E4437000AE726D85605C8440000040

I've no idea what difference the position of the switch makes as it's not something I tend to touch often nor do I know if it's possible with a standard switch.

I have an Elegance with rain/light sensor, and no auto light switch.

I have managed to get mine to work as follows.

Light switch OFF.

Lock the car, the lights always stay off.

Unlock the car, if it's dark outside, the lights come on and stay on for 30 seconds (Or whatever I have set in maxidot setup). If daylight, they stay off.

Light switch ON.

Lock the car. If it's dark, they stay on for 30 seconds. If it's light, they go off as soon as I lock the car.

Unlock the car. Lights come on and stay on until I turn the switch off, or lock the car.

I'll give it a scan to see what coding options I've got set.

Would it make any differance that my elegance model doesn't have maxidot?

Thanks all for your input on this, as daft as it sounds I was looking forward to having this available on my new car to me.

Thanks guys for the input. Like redcupra my Ekegance doesn't gave Maxidot, so everything is via VCDS and trial and error.

I'd be happy if I got the functionality as above, but having had a play in the dark with the switch in both on and off positions LH lights definitely don't work.

Interestingly I went on Partslink with my chassis input and searched out the headlight switch. The notes beside the switch only made a remark like 'with coming home lights'. Only the auto light switch has the remark 'with coming home and leaving home'.

To that end my car is behaving as per factory configuration, if it left with the code box ticked for CH lights.

If be happier though if it worked as described above!

I'm not sure if it makes any difference that mine is a pre facelift, but here is my coding on comfort module.

Mmm still non the wiser tbh as I don't have VCDS, ideally I need someone local to have a look for me and check the above.

Problem is don't really know anyone in my area :(
