what is a sensible price?

Featured Replies

Just bought a brand new Fiesta ST.

Obviously the dealer has slapped some polish on it but what sorta money should I set aside and what should I be getting done as a good start to looking after the paint and giving it a good seal?

Pointers appreciated and if anyone can reccomend a decent detailing place down around Plymouth/Exeter?

Edited and re-opened.

Nice purchase!!

Take a look Chris' prices. They seem really reasonable and are a good starting point.

It all depends on what you want. A ceramic coating that will last 1 - 3 years or a wax that will last upto 6 months. The coatings route will be more expensive and need looking after with the relevant products etc. But it all depends on what you want. I would imagine a coating will cost you upwards of about £300 as the paint needs to be in perfect condition (which will depend on how the dealer has washed it) and will need to be surgically clean. It then needs to have the coating applied and left to cure for 24 hours before getting wet. A wax and cleanse will cost you about £80 upwards depending on the level of work required and the products used.

Let us know how you get on pal.

Thanks Neil

Im not out to make mega bucks........More the service to Briskodians and the advice that goes hand in hand

Shame youre not nearer Ben

I think you may be deluding yourself in thinking that a dealer has done anything but the bare minimum....so, no polish etc.

Not deluded, that was the whole point of my post :)

The dealer may have rubbed it and made it look nice but that was not a proper effort. I want to give it a decent start in life, as it is a keeper and will probably be my last ever new car.

Thanks for the treatments info "Hunty278" gives me something to munch on.

Thanks for sorting/editing the thread, Jason allows me to get some good info/feedback on peoples thoughts professional and amateur ;)

Mildly amusing coming a cropper as a moderator, but all adds to the fun.

I can recommend a good place in Exeter - A VERY good place, however as they are a non forum sponsor I am not allowed to recommend them. :D  I am aware its one of the best detailers in the country though

I certainly hope you get a good detailer sorted and a good price.

One example to share - last week I had a friend at my work buying a new Audi RS - requesting a professional new car detail.

Audi Dealer offered to do Lifeshine treatment after PDI for £400 onto the purchase price.

That's £400 for max 2-3hours work to wash your car and apply the lifeshine pack - minimal prep or decon I'm sure.

I got my mate in touch with a local detailer who I have got to know very well in recent months.

Same £400 for a 3-day new car detail - full decon, polish and protect with Gtechniq ceramic protection and products.

We went down to see him and discuss further, only to see a VW Golf R new car detail being completed and handed over..... wow!

400 quid well spent ey Ste. Love a new Golf R too.

When the detailer has a premises that allows him to carry out his trade indoors which in turn allows him to let his coatings cure overnight which is essential to get the maximum durability out of the coating, the price has to rise slightly as it all costs money. Plus the insurance to keep your pride and joy covered during its detail. It all mounts up. That is a great price for the service Ste's friend was getting.

Absolutely Neil - the quality of cars going through his unit are absolutely stunning. The premises are kept clean, tidy, with good light sources - a very nice setup.

He stocks all the Gtechniq products for his main packages; but is happy to look at alternatives if the owner is especially pedantic.

I was very impressed with the £400 price point - but then again I have sent a few guys his way.

I'm sure he appreciates the business and the word of mouth recommendations.

In saying that - he is fully booked until end of July.... and he doesn't really advertise as such!

Is his company name and location a secret Steve?

Is this the bloke you mentioned with the 911's & high end Audi's? If so I looked him up & he certainly produces quality results.

That's the fellow. Very focused on the Porsche scene this year;

but still looking after his regulars and generic OCD customers
