Console/Wishbone Bushes 1.4mpi

Featured Replies

Need to replace the console bushes on my 1.4mpi.  Have seen some lemforder ones on Eurocarparts for £8.76 each.  Has anybody else fitted these?  I was wondering what sort of quality they would be, how long they are likely to last?

Thanks

Victor

Meyle hd gets another vote from me. I picked up the 4 year gaurantee ones for 7pound each

If your doing it yourself, psb bushes are 2 for about 24 quid and have lifetime guarantee.

No good if you don't like extra harshness though.

Thanks for all your help everybody.  One last question, the old bushes seem to have an outer metal casing whereas the meyler ones seem to be just rubber and no outer metal casing, am I correct on this?

The only ones that have an outer metal casing are the SEAT Cupra bushes which are a solid rubber bush. If someone had fitted those to your car then I doubt they'd need replacing.

my cars fully polly bushed and it just seems tighter and firmer on the road

There's no disputing that. It does come at a cost of more harshness though. Depends if it bothers you or not.

Final question,  when replacing console bushes you have to remove 3x13mm bolts on the lower ball joint and an 18mm bolt at the front of the wishbone.   Also there may be a lockshield washer on the lower ball joint as well.  Anyway question is do these need to be replaced with new parts on reassembly?

Many Thanks

Yeah, it's best to replace the 18mm wishbone bolts. The 13mm ball joint bolts sometimes snap on removal so best to get those as well, along with new captive nut plates.

You are indeed correct, the original bushes are metalastic type bonded void bushes, horrible, just use a hacksaw blade to get the old ones out, it's easy mode.

The original Skoda bushes don't have an outer metal casing. It's plastic, as are the Meyle ones.

Mine were metal.

Really? Never seen those.

Perhaps it's only the really early ones then, mine is a 2000 registered car made in 1999.

Ah right, could be.
