DSG: delay when reversing

Featured Replies

Hi, this question is adressed mainly to owners of petrol engines combined with DSG gearbox. Sometimes (rarely) when shifting from D to R (usually when parking) and then lightly pushing the throttle nothing happens for about 1-2 seconds and then the car starts to move. Sometimes its accompanied by quiet click sound. Is it a normal behaviour of DSG? Thx in advance!

My car is Octavia vRS 2.0TSI DSG (only 1000km on the clock)

Mine does this.

I think thats the hill hold assist activating between gear selection?

Its hill hold, you press the foot brake between gear selection therefore, you get hill hold whether you're on a hill or not.

Quite normal, you can flick the gear selector through without the foot brake, its a touch quicker but, its not really an issue.

Hi guys! Thx for your replies, however that's not the hh i think. Why? 1.) I use brake EVERYtime (dunno how to shift between D and R without brake) and it happens rarely (for example 1 out of 50 cases). 2.) I know the behaviour of hh. This is quite different. As i've already said I even hear a quiet click sound coming from the gearbox. 3.) happens only when reversing. I am 90% sure this is only gearbox related.

Btw how do u shift from D to R without a foot brake?

When i reverse out of my driveway i put my foot on the brake...change from P to R.

As i near the end of my driveway, i flick it into N and the car slows to just rolling back. As i leave my driveway, I flick it into D and off i go. Never touching the footbrake unless there is traffic.

Treating it like how i drive my manual cars.

By any chance, is it the start-stop system kicking in when you put your foot on the brake before shifting from D or R? Start-stop is not always available and the activation also depends on how much pressure you put on the foot brake - that could be why you don't see the problem every time. I know it has happened to me.

There is a delay when switching between D and R. The light click you vagely hear may be the selector lock that disengages. You can also feel it in the selector when in N and you press the brake pedal. It is a safety feature to avoid unintended gear selection.
