Which chip??

Featured Replies

Right, I'm definitely going to take the plunge and get it done (the chip that is ) .

Question is, which one;

1. AMD - good reputation, before and after dyno, but

3. JABBA - good price and gains, just not convinced if they're as good as AMD/APR

Can I ask why you are "not convinced"?

Great price, great service, friendly, custom remap done for *your* car, on the rolling road, impressive gains, safe boost, very driveable, cannot reccomend them enough.

(and they gave me 222bhp & 231Lb ft torque :D )

Have you got the full Milltek 3 inch system or just the CAT back and what are the perf. gains, real and subjective? Alos what do you think of the sound in car and out?

I have the AMD/Milltek Remap. It was dyno'ed at 226bhp from 183bhp (stock). I am very pleased with all of the above. The engine has been moded further but if you our in the kent area you can have a play. 8)

Go on you know it makes sense :D

Have you had the injectors done as well? And when are you putting the big turbo on?

Will it be as big as the one Ian just sent me a link for?

Introducing the K020?

Bet it suffers from lag tho!!

I am just trying to find out what other folks have found with the full Milltek. Jon provided me with his R/R curves that shows up to 40 lbf.ft gain with the exhast alone - amazing change.

Does it sound better in your view?

What did the insurers have to say as the new tailpipe is kind of obvious?

Yes I would love to see it, as you know I am in Sussex.

We could have a mini meet - my Thread on SE Meet has had no response apart from Colin.

Assume thats your new turbo - Jon!

Is that the IHI MkX?

Injectors yes, Turbo no, big Turbo Jeeeeessssus!

I'll stick with the K04, after i've sorted the transmission, this is getting expensive

Why K04?

Wouldn't one of the IHI ones be better? They are same size, or very similar, can boost higher and don't run as hot, ergo they last longer and can give more power. Or has Scott got some K04s going cheap? ;)

I dont want much more power, things are guna start going bang! soon

What orque figure have you got? Kust curious as the only other AmD one I've seen was LLoyds silver one. He had the exhaust, remap, injectors and turbo. IIRC he had 235 bhp and 250lb/ft. Figures for mine are 228 and 242 respectively.

Jabba were looking at doing injectors, remap, IHI turbo and manifold for around

Dunno really, just everyone seems to rave about AMD/APR - I think also with the big power cars I have seen from them, maybe I'm subconciously thinking Jabba=expensive repair needed! Stoopid I know

Anyone else used Jabba??

I've got the back end Miltek'd only

I must admit I was disappointed with the lack of sound when I first had it done, but now it's loosened up it's perfect - not Max Power noise, just a nice throaty sound, also it "burbles" a bit Impreza style. No major volume increase in the car at any speeds

I haven't had it RR'd but there is no doubt that there is more power (or torque?) - it revs much more freely at the top third of the rev range - if I had to guess i would say 10-15 bhp or so more.

Bit pricey but I reckon you get what you pay for!

I haven't got a chip yet but I do know from the various forums I have explored - including SEATCupra.net - that Jabbasport have a good reputation for their tuning. Jabbasport are near the top if not at the top of my list for when I do tune my 4x4.

What's the cost of the jabbasport remap? I was all set to go for the APR chip, as I liked the idea of it being switchable, though the revotechnik 'chipless' system looks interesting, if a bit [b:60b7f2b8e0]too [/b:60b7f2b8e0]new and more expensive.

Also, (excuse my ignorance  ) if jabbasport is a remap, does this mean there's no pulling apart of the ECU?

Ian.

I think they still put another chip in, they just "remap" on the rolling road to suit your requirements??

Probably wrong - please correct me :lurker:

AMD do not change the chip, they hack (for want of a better word) into the ECU and remap it. Once done you need a pass-word to get back in, so your dealer cannot tamper with this section. This is what i have been told anyway. Also if any one removes the ECU they cannot tell if it has been tampered with.

Whereabouts are you in Kent?

Yes I would love to see it, as you know I am in Sussex.

That is the figure claimed for the whole exhaust (i.e. 3 inch throughout instead of 2.5 into 3 inch). Should be much better with CAT but its ot cheap.

What is the insurance situation, some say they are not interested in exhausts but its best to tell them because its obvious at the back end plus the sound?
