Detailing

Featured Replies

Just a quick question if I may!!

what is everyone's thoughts on Clay baring your car with a detail spray for the lubricant?, what I mean by this is.

1. Is the purpose of Claying not meant to be getting rid of residue and wax, contaminants?

2 .would using a quick detailer as recommended by certain products not basically re-wax the car while Claying?

My next question is,

I have just bought some professional body shop shampoo which is meant to get rid of wax and contaminants prior to clay baring.

1. would it make sense, and could I use the professional shampoo in a spray bottle diluted with water as a lubricant with the Clay Bar as this would theoretically help remove more contaminants and not leave as much of a residue as it is not a quick Detailer which has wax properties in it,

Please let me know your thoughts

Kind Regards.

If the Pro shampoo lubricates the clay enough then yes that will be fine Drew ... or use that shampoo again after claying if it claims to remove any wax... I used a diluted mix of Powermaxed TFR in a spray bottle as a lubricant for a Farecla clay mitt as I was going down the sealant route rather than wax, and that was very successful, see my topic here

You may have more response to this topic if you post in the Styling and Car Care section of the forum by the way.

Bilt Hamber clay & use water as a lube, I tend to put a bit of shampoo in the water to make it a bit slicker

You can use a QD but in my opinion it's a waste of the product. Most people polish after claying so any residue from any QD would be removed with the polish & subsequent IPA wipe down.

It's quite surprising how smoother the paint feels after claying.

Personally I use a Farecela clay mit rather than a clay bar. It works for me and apparently is a lot easier (I've never used 'proper' clay') plus you lube it with water with some car shampoo added. Takes no time at all to do either. Simples.....

Bilt Hamber AutoClay with soapy water as the lube..Ive never used a QD as lubrication

However, as Ade says, a Clay Mitt is an excellent piece of kit and makes claying a lot quicker...I use soapy water with that too

You can feel and hear the contamination being removed
