Bumping into policemen.

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2012 Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI Greenline estate, it bumps on sleeping policemen with any adults in the back. Can I just fit standard rear springs from a non-greenline estate to give more clearance or can spring assistors be used..? I have searched on topic, but could use some clarification... Any other useful suggestions? Cheers, Rissole.

I've got a similar issue on my non-Greeline estate; protection plate under the boot has the scrapes to prove it

As with yours, only happens when adults as are in the back

Interested to see if there are any solutions that come out of this

I'm not sure that it's clearance that is the issue Rissole.

My estate is lowered 40mm on uprated springs and loaded up with adults and kit it does not scrape at the rear - only the front where the rubber 'filets' under the front nose catch on occasion. I can't comment on standard fit as I bought my car with these springs fitted.

Upgraded springs as you suggest (not lowered, just firmer) sounds like the solution but I am surprised that the estate has the issue when loaded up - it's what they are designed to do.

By the way, nice thread title....at first glance I thought it was something to do with a weird social scene OR driving into police vehicles :)

Glad i didnt buy a Greenline now, Lichfield has a few bumps that could stop a monster truck

Do you mean the sleeping policemen that are all the way across the road, or the ones that are designed for vehicles to straddle? If the latter, my suggestion is to not straddle them, but put one side of the car 'up and over' leaving the other on the flat. Would that help?

Apart from lower ride height what differences are there between a Greenline and a non-Greenline 1.6tdi?

Not very much as far as I can see, the info below is taken from the Skoda website. I don't know if the gearing is different, how many revs is yours doing at 70mph in 6th?.

ŠKODA Superb - GreenLine

The four-cylinder 1.6 TDI CR DPF 105PS engine, equipped with the diesel particulate filter is the heart of the GreenLine model. The engine fulfils the EU 5 emission standards.

Further measures include the brake energy recovery, Start-Stop system and low rolling resistance tyres with higher recommended pressure.
Effective aerodynamics and gear change recommendation also help achieving low emissions and fuel consumption. Another way to significantly improve the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle is covered undercarriage, enhancing the air flow under the vehicle. These environmentally friendly models are distinguished by the GreenLine badge on the radiator grille and tailgate.

Ill check tomorrow but im not a fan of chugging along, always thought that uses MORE fuel, it certainly did in the Mondeo 130PS, 6th was thirstier as was cruise (over my foot)

6th gear, true 70mph (on taximeter) = 74mph indicated @ 1950rpm

6th gear, true 70mph (on taximeter) = 74mph indicated @ 1950rpm

The same as the Greenline, an indicated 70mph is about 1800rpm, so same gearing.

The lower emissions must be down to the 'covered undercarriage' and lower ride height giving reduced drag.

Apart from that you get a badge on the grille and badge on the boot.
