Twin door question

Featured Replies

Just a technical question about the twin door on my superb, is there a way to lock it into the estate position (bigger option) as I would prefer it to open always this way rather than having to constantly press the button to shift the mechanism?

No it always defaults as the saloon option rather than the hatch option.

.... which is probably due to the "pop open" of the saloon boot from the keyfob, which I now seldom use, due to the potential wiring issues associated with that in the long-term. Still love the "twindoor " feature though! :)

Thanks for your advice, would be good if you could change the defaults, still it's great to have the choice the boot is immense!!!!!

What is this issue? I've not come across that before

You're welcome matey...

Hi, are you saying that we are best to use the hatch option rather than the boot lid option to prolong cable failure?

Thanks Pete

No, I'm just noting there have been failures due, it seems, to the wiring loom being installed without the correct level of "give" in the loom during build, which results in wiring breakages at the hinge of the Twindoor system.

I have no idea if its an issue which has been solved from  VIN xxxx or was restricted to certain build dates. When I was considering getting a MKII, I asked the Service Manager of the dealer I use what known problems exist on this model and he mentioned early ERG valve failure, problems with the bluetooth unit and this expensive issue as the only significant problem's on the MKII, so given this, I very rarely use the "pop-open" bootlid feature from the remote.

Bought my March 2014 reg Skoda Approved Superb 1.4, 2 months ago, from a Skoda main dealer.

It's been a mixed experience, mainly due, I think, to dealer shortcomings. But that's another story!

A couple of weeks ago the twindoor developed something like the opposite of the OP's question - in my case the door always opened as a hatch, no matter which button was pressed. After reading all the "wiring problems" posts, I stripped the covers and checked the wiring  - all was OK.

After partial re-assembly and firm hatch closure, the RHS clunk fired and I suddenly twigged. Firm pressure on the LHS of the boot lid operated the clunk on that side and the small boot lid operated as normal again. Hatch remains the default unless each side of boot is firmly pressed after closure.

Presumably there is an adjustment somewhere to operate a microswitch on each side when the hatch top half closes into its socket? Any ideas?

(P.S I discovered AFTER purchase  that the car had been rear ended - probably the root cause of the above?)
