Skoda felecia fun engine feels different under load

Featured Replies

Hi there been running my fun for a couple of years now. Just lately it seems as if the engine is performing differently

It's hard to describe but feels wrong.

In third it feels like it struggles a little in normal rev range but picks up nice with a little more acceleration. Almost fighting me.

I had a seized caliper pin not so long ago so thought it had reuccurred. But no.

It's just hitting 106000 miles and I'm thinking cam belt time

Other options?

Engine is sweet in idle

Need a new rocker gasket

Any help or reassurance

Would a cam belt pulley issue be felt?

Thanks

I really don't know what kind of help do you expect from such description. We are not wizards to pinpoint the cause based on what you feel, especially when you communicate in writing. Why don't you take us along in your car by recording a video? Comment while driving. Why nobody use videos beats me. Hearing the engine or other sounds during driving coupled with snapshots of instrument cluster is 10x better than a subjective description in words.

If you don't gather more real, organized observations, all we can do is throw a bunch of various hypotheses that will end in a mess. Help us to help you.

(Oh look Masster's still here {giggle})

Am fairly sure I know what you're talking about, but it never seemed to happen for very long when I had her. I used to put it down to headwind.

I used to put it down to it being an old engine, especially compared to the more modern stuff that's in the Octavia that she was running beside. Remember they did only start with 75bhp, and have probably lost a bit over time, and were never hugely spectacular in their day.

Good to hear she's still trundling along though :) :)

(Oh blimey, is it a couple of years already?!?!?!?!)

I used to put it down to headwind.

Are UK winds so fierce they act as a brake making a 1.6 l car struggle in 3rd gear ?

I never experienced such thing with my less powerful Felicia. Not even during a tropical storm.

Have you looked at the spark plugs as mine was struggling the other day one plug was filthy gave it a clean and now drives sweet as a nut. Well apart from stalling when cold lol

Look at the spark plugs dissy... and look if throttle body needs cleaning. My last 1.6 liked 5th gear at 30pmh I put that down to its skimmed head and decat custom exaust back exaust... NOW lives in the fun :-)

Thanks for the range of replies......

She's been nothing but fun. Thanks rainbow fire, just concerned over this excessive road noise.

I'm now thinking bearins but with mot around the corner im hoping the issue will be pinpointed then

I have recently rotated the wheels as she had a new set of wheels and tyres 12 months ago.

Interesting point on spark plugs which I'll take a look at.

Hasn't really missed a beat in the 2 years I've had her but don't won't to make something worse.

Rainbow can you remember doing the cam belt when you had her?

Thanks again

I have to admit, I honestly can't remember. I just gave it to our mechanic and paid the bill. Although am leaning towards "don't think so".

Road noise: roof on or off? with the roof on and the back open, there will be huge amounts of noise as there's no sound-proofing back there. Roof off, you're listening to the outside world, especially with the back open. All shut up, they're still no massive of sound-proofing.

Glad to hear you're getting fun out of her. I couldn't help but grin all the time when I had her. :) :)
