Climate Faulty, where do I start?

Featured Replies

If anyone can advise, the best place to start to find out what is, and what is not working, ie where the fault lies if this is possible.

I ask as I realise there is a compressor, condenser and a pump? I believe. Is there a way of checking these individually? Anything else?

I realise a lot of people have similar problems, and I have looked at most of the postings regarding similar issues, without solution.

If it has been covered in depth before, a link would be very much appreciated.

If someone has the time, then photo's of where to look, etc would be a big help also. (fault is on the Skoda).

I would like to tackle this myself, as I have removed the bumper on my Audi before (I believe this would be necessary on the Skoda, too) to repair the adaptive xenon high beam flap, saving myself around a grand that time.

It is an estate car,  and as our summers are getting hotter :sun: (anyone else noticed the sun is higher in the sky than it was, say, five years ago?) It would be very nice to get it working.

Thanks guys.

If you haven't got access to VCDS which is the best way to go, there is a way of getting a readout on climate control as to your AC system.   (Hold ECON and RECIRC to get any codes. )  at the same time and turning temp knob up it gives codes which can be read in the temp display.  The only thing is I cant remember the details of how to do it., used it a few times on my 06 elegance diesel a couple of years ago.

The compressor is the pump for the coolant gases.

This was something I copied a few years ago,

What appears to be the problem?

Not getting cold enough?

Has it had a regas?

I took mine in to be regas about a month ago and the engineer said it wasn't as cold as it should be however there had been no gas in the system in the first place.

I then took it into a Bosch approved specialist who checked it out and notice the gas had once again leaked and after an inspection noticed my condenser has some damage to it. Unfortunately from what I understand I need to have this changed (bought the parts and doing so next weekend) and it regassed before finding out if the compressor is also at fault.

Good questions

The system has not worked (for cooling) since I purchased the vehicle a few years ago. I have not had it regassed, but I am assuming that it will not be this simple solution, as there seem to be so many issues with so many cars.

Ideally I would like to know where to look for any condenser damage, and if a visual (or similar) check can be made as regards the compressor.

Also information regarding vehicle age, engine, petrol or diesel and if these make any difference to the parts / make required.

Mine is a 2005 1.9 pd estate dsg. Also wondering if the gearbox may make the job more difficult, (it did re- the console bushes / wishbone mount).

As stated, photo's or a link where to look would be helpful.

Cheers.

Have you got my car?

Same year, spec and problem :)

I'd first read the compressor code and gas pressure on the climate panel as above.

If it reads 0 pressure, take it to get regassed. They will do a vacuum test to check for leaks before filling it up.

You never know, this may be all it needs, and is a good first port of call.

Without checking for fault codes it is going to be complete guesswork.

I wondered if this was the case.

Are you agreeing with erindad then bud, VCDS is the only sensible place to start.

And would this tell me what items were faulty? ie if it is just one particular knackered part, would VCDS pick up that one particular part?

I don't know if I've got your car, but it's a bit sweaty at times without climate, isn't it, Lol.

I will see if I can look into this a bit further using erindad's info. Looks like points 19, 43 and 49 ???????????.

Did you finally find / sort the fault on yours?

You should be able to pinpoint the problem with VCDS. Obviously if it is leaking then it won't help you find the leak, it will just tell you that there's no pressure in the system.

Any chance you are near NG11 9 trundlenut, and willing to test / check this for me?

Is that Clifton way?

I'm Near Long Eaton and I would be quite happy to check your car for you.

Yes mate, bob on location and thanks for the offer.

I will have to look into 'pm' ing you to arrange this. I only checked earlier this week what 'pm' meant, Lol.

I start a new job next week, but would love to get this sorted and working if feasible. Knowing what the problem is can sometimes be half of the job.

Cheers  .
