coilovers and knocking on full lock help

Featured Replies

So I've noticed that I have a knocking on full lock both ways. Have had a proper look today and the steering arm (tracking arm) is just catching the arb on full lock.

Any suggestions?? car isn't mega low by any standards and are Weitec coilovers if that makes a difference.

Anything I can do other than raise it so it misses??

Cheers.

I've heard talk of different arb drop links?

Yeah I heard that mate but I think its if it catches the driveshaft not the steering arm

What coilovers are you running and with what ARB and drop links?

weitec hicon gt, eibach arb and normal/standard drop links... Any suggestions

Also can you get the adjuster nut for Weitec coilovers as mines starting to round now I've been messing with them.

You may need a different length drop link, difficult to say though without checking the car over.

Is it front or rear?

On the Front...Its when its on full lock the steering arm gets closer and closer to the arb and eventually catches it slightly when lock is in it final position..

Got an MOT in a couple of months so needed to get it sorted by then really...Happy to try different drop links if you think that will work. Like I say it catches just the other side of the arb mount to the body so I'm not sure how different droplinks will move the arb there but your the expert so will take what you say. Could prob take a pic if it helps.

Are you able to get a picture showing where it's catching?

Ok I'll try see what I can do although won't be easy as won't catch when lifted on the jack to get pic...May have to take one thru alloys and see if you can see.

Here you go this shows where it catches..

That's a difficult one, I see what you mean when you say you don't think different drop links will solve it.

It must be too low. Can't see any other reason.

Any ideas then Damian??

It really ain't that low, I've got cupra front splitter on and don't catch speed humps or anything theres a good 2 finger gap between tyres and wheels I've definately seen much lower thats for sure. Would probably have to take it up 2cm's or more to miss that completely.

It's difficult to say for sure without checking the car but as mentioned a few more photos could help.

It's only happening on one side yes?

No both sides, is exactly the same on the opposite side on the other lock, what else do you need photos of and I'll get them???

Raised the car a few threads and had tracking reajusted and its helped a tiny amount.

Have the garage not been able to say what they think it is after looking at it?

Damian @ DPM Performance

Does that ARB have end stops on? and are the ARB brackets in tact? Mine had snapped and the old style ARB had been slopping side to side and staying there hence the knocking. A new style ARB with brackets and welded end stops cured it for me. Could be similar issue.................

Damian, garage was just a tyre place doing the tracking they didn't look at this as they only do tyres and tracking.

Stuart, Arb brackets are all in tact and looks like its polybushed, what is an end stop though?? Its an aftermarket eibspach arb so would hope it was all good.
