Superb 2 : considerations for company hack & towing ?

Featured Replies

HI all, about to order a new company car and the superb is high on the list, especially the L&K if it is in my band. i currently have a 2012 140ps passat SE estate.

anyhow, i viewed one last week, loved all the toys but as the Mk3 is due out in a few months i am concerned that the kit may not be as current as it can be compared to say a passat (hate the new interior dash strip) or even the octavia?

the sat nav for example, how good is this compared to the current 'version' in other models (or is it the same), or the dash menus/etc or safety features (trailor stability)....probably picking at moot points really but like to know. and bluetooth connection to the phone, i know some have issues?

and in the passat i have a usb and ipod adaptor that i can use, does the L&K have this, and DAB, i read somewhere that the L&K doesnt have 'proper' DAB?

and towing, well it is the same as he passat, all good apart from the expensive towbar..

Size, the passat can sometimes be a pain as it is quite long and wide, so how does the superb fare with sizes, i see i it is slightly longer but the octavia is probably a bit too small, especially for fitting a full awnining in the boot  and other carvanning odds and sods. but for work my trips are mainly motorway, and weekends is local.

rear leg room not a bother as no-one will be using it..

ta all.

The current Superb is missing a few features that will show up in the Mark 3 version alright. Things like lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, auto braking etc. are not available on the current model. The new model will also get a built in folding towbar (You open the boot and pull a release lever on the boot lip and the towbar with integrated 13 pin socket drops out from behind the bumper). Trailer stability is on the current model, but the new Passat has auto trailer reversing, which will probably show up in the Superb too. Based on the auto parking feature in the current Superb this is probably more of a gimmick than anything particularly useful to a competent driver though.

If you get the Media device interface (MDI) you'll be able to plug your ipod or a hard disk into the car through USB. Any version with satnav will have an SD card slot taking 32 GB, so this might be easier anyway. The MDI seems to be always on according to some comments here, so you should unplug the ipod when leaving the car for more than a day or two. No idea on DAB availability, the Columbus satnav supports it AFAIK, but you may need a tuner module.

The Superb is narrow for a car of it's size - it's more or less the same width as the Octavia. The Mark 3 Superb will be 50 mm wider than the current one AFAIK, which will make it a similar width to other cars this size. There is about 1.9 m of load bed available with the seats down, so any awning designed to fit in a car will fit in the Superb. With the seats up I was able to put a washing machine in the boot of the estate, so the only way to get more luggage space is to buy a van.

You can't order a new Superb Mk2 now, unless it comes direct from Skoda stock.

So any order placed (if you can indeed place an order) will be for the new Mk3.

coops, thats good to know, or maybe not !

Probably best then to compare the new Superb will the latest Passat if you can't order the MKII any longer.  Length wise the Superb III is slightly longer 4861 v 4768 (Passat) and wider 2841 v 2791(Passat).  Technology  is now years behind on the MKII (I don't even have a USB on my FL L&K) but that will all change with the new model as mentioned above.
