Taking elegance heated seat wiring & elements into a VRS?

Featured Replies

Right Brisks,

Anybody done this yet? I have the seats and the wiring so im ready to go, however im worried about rips in the seats so i want to check how to do this all properly.

routing the wiring should not be too difficult, questions i have are:

Will the VRS seats have the ability to fit the plugs for the heated seats, i think i noticed on the elegance set there are plugs under the seat.

How are the elements swapped from one seat to another.

How does the wiring loom connect into the car? I know theres a plug from the heated seats, a plug on the underside of the seat however i dont know if thats just one large loom or part of the main wiring loom?

HELP APPRECIATED :) !

Aaron

Steveopc is in the middle of doing it I believe.

I'm sure it's possibly, but the wiring is the big issue. I'm not all that clued up on wiring so can't say, but don't think it's quite as simple as a live and earth and away you go.

The seats swapping is the easy bit.

ive gave up you got to change the whole loom up behind the dash basically its a full strip down of interior and dash ain't got time for that. lol

Ah right. Isnt the loom plug and play?

So theres no way of really doing this without cutting into the existing loom and splicing off for power to the elements? then using the existing wiring from the old fabia running into the switches?

Looking at the proper loom from Kufatec, there isn't any splicing to do.

Here is a guide for a Polo which should be the same.

So using that loom would mean i dont need to splice from the main loom? Ill have a look into that thanks.

If its no good, ill just make a loom up at work - ive taken the passenger elements out and control wiring, ill get it working in the lab then wire it into the fuse box using a blank space :) (Hopefully)

I fitted kit using that loom and no splicing required, it just plugs in to control unit under the steering wheel. All plug and play, only thing ive found is that my seats stay on after ignition key is removed, not sure if its way ive wired it, not really bothered looking into it.

Is this because its not enabled in VCDS? I read somewhere that if switched on it turns the live into a switched live?

I rather think that might be beyond the realms of software control.

Not really, if that option is reliant on a normally closed relay, all it would take is the a software signal to open the relay when prompted IE via the switch.

Yeah, but if it's already going through a relay, it's already a switched live (just not being switched), not a live. I'd be surprised to find it was wired that way, to put it mildly.

Terminal 30 (KL 30 in the picture of the loom) is permanent live, battery positive, always live, not switched by anything.

To be fair, it's hard to know what's what with that loom, so I'll leave you to figure it out, rather than speculate further. :)

don't that drain your battery ??

Aaron; my apologies if I came across as unhelpful/argumentative/grumpy earlier.  I had a 'challenging' day at work, which I may have unfairly shared with you.

I do have some wiring diagrams so let me know if there's anything I can look up for you. :)

Yeah it does drain the battery if i leave the heated seats on, just got to remember to check the seats are off before i get out!

I think thats the issue, ive connected it to a live behind the dashboard and i think thats terminal 30, i will have a mess about when ive got time.

I did code it in vcds as well.

Right okay, I see your point now - i just assumed it could be via relay controlled as it was the simplest explanation :)

Here is the VCDS coding for enabling heated seats on the Polo 9N, (same as the Fabia)

Thanks !

Its okay, we all have that  :D, i just want to take as much as i can over to the VRS from my old elegance before its scrapped off - i was even contemplating the rear electric windows, but with the age of the car it came from (2000) the windows were starting to become faulty in at least one door - so i dont think it would be worth the bother, even if it makes it that slight bit rarer!

So really you'd need to connect it to a switched live? Rather than permanent, however wouldnt that then mean you'd have to activate something else in the car to make that connection to get the seats to work?  :dull:. How does it connect in with the elegance fabias? (ripped out the looms in mine and didnt really take note )

If its not possible this way, then could it be done via an external power relay or thyristor (albeit you'd have to mount it somewhere), to apply a signal to allow the relay to conduct, i.e. via the switch? I assume there is a "control" wire somewhere possibly for this purpose.

Just throwing ideas round here as theres little information on doing this and i'm sure its quite possible without too much of a headache!

just ordered mine this looks so much easier!

there is a thermal switch in the element IIRC, there is also a control box located under the seat which controls the actual current flow to the heater.

Let's see if anyone actually gets this working then!

Quick question, does this work with the original heated seat switches in the dash?

plugs look like they fit the original switches in dash I have both seats to play with just gotto strip my leathers now to fit elements ect

Best see if they work before stripping the leathers. :D

all been tested nice and warm on drive home from London lol

Ah that's awesome.

So all I need is elegance seats and switches then that wiring loom kit and it's all dandy?
