Why is sign recognition advertised but not fitted?

Featured Replies

I have the Columbus sat nav and I thought sign recognition is advertised as standard. Is there any way to get it to work without plugging it in?

Traffic sign recognition has never been available in the UK as an option, and it has never been advertised in any of the brochures either.

It can be enabled if you have Columbus and Lane Assist by someone with VCDS.

Why not?

Its the same with voice controll here. Not enabled.

What's the purpose of Traffic Sign Recognition again, as on the face of it seems a little pointless?

I find it nice to have. It shows the speedlimits on all roads Ive driven on so far. And it shows when its no overtaking.

Its really not a must have, but nice when you dont pay much attetion to signs in areas with speed cameras.

Aye, I did mine with me VCDS, took about 3 minutes to do, so not rocket science.  Guide on here showed me the way, and if you ever in Essex let me know and Ill happily turn it on.

Thanks mate. I'm only across the border in kent so I might take you up on that offer!

The map data isn't always correct, for example it is way behind the times on 20mph zones and the camera recognised signs take precedence over the map data.

And you get a nice speed limit sign in the MFD :) which you can't enable without enabling TSR.

Each importer (Skoda UK etc.) decides which of the many options they make available for their territory, and what is also standard at each spec level. For example, we can't spec auxilliary heaters etc. in the UK either.

Do you really need aux heaters in the UK?

How cold does it get there in the winter?

But still, kinda weird to decide not to have a thing like traffic sign recognition, nothing region specific about a option like that.

Probably not, but it was the first example that sprang to mind.

minus 19 is the coldest I've seen it :-)

(well I saw minus 34 in Canada but in the UK minus 19)
