58 Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDI PD DPF Greenline

Featured Replies

looking all over lol,  in Newcastle upon tyne, budget  was 7k max, but was her wanting a monte, but was even just thinking of getting her a older car  to get her experience driving.

PCP on car next when shes got  more experience, that seems the cheapest option,

Just don't want to pay over the odds for anything.

She wants a monte, I prefer her not to spend her full budget and get a decent but cheaper car to built confidence

Not sure about newer greenline but the older version is £20 a year road tax.

Funny, cos I've just now had a fault.... on starting to do the "Faster driving" regen, the car seems to have gone into limp mode or something. I am hoping it clears as not sure how you clear the limp mode, except by going to dealers!

Sounds odd.

Is the car standard? Engine wise?

Maybe get somebody with vcds to plug it in and see if its stored a fault

Found out the hard way, my usual place is gone! Preston Skoda in Forest Gate. (No notification, just call divert to Trans City- Walthamstow, who couldn't even lift the bonnet for another three days).

Went to Stevens, a family run business in Wanstead, who specialise in VAG cars. They did a diagnostics, found a clogged erg valve and replaced it. Fault code cleared but still sluggish on occasion but they said they also cleared the air mass flow code which did not keep returning, like the EGR one.

I am happy they know what they are doing but feel they overcharged me on the part. They say its genuine VAG but VAG is made by Peirburg and I could have paid around £100 for the same part with out a VAG stamp and I paid £147, to which, they then added VAT... I am sure it must have already been added!  The whole job was £320, with the VAT.   (OUCH)!

I may still need a new air mass meter but will try a specialist cleaning product first and slap in a new air filter regardless as this is advised after a new meter any way.

I took the old part home and have found that some types can be cleaned up and re-used rather then replaced but that is usually more effective on older versions rather then later, electronic solenoid ones. May be possible but who wants to spend hours cleaning and refitting, only to still need a replacement? Great for a hobby on a second car but not for a working driving instructor where time is of great importance!

So, Ill clean my air flow meter when my solvent arrives (From Ebay) And see if there is a better response and if not, get a new Bosch meter as anything else is most likely a waste of lager vouchers!
