What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

Just ordered a replacement battery as mine is three year old and getting a bit tired. Gone for a Shido Lithium Ion battery for the first time over the standard Yuasu due to their higher cranking power, faster recovery, much higher charge cycle rates and a very impressive weight saving of nearly 3kg!

The weight saving from the battery, exhaust, airbox and SAS gubbins I estimate to be around 12-13kg and should take the bike below the 200kg dry mark which is pretty impressive for such big bike, only 7-8kg short of a Fireblade kerb weight and this holds a lot more fuel. Only the rider now that needs to lose some weight

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Today my 51 year old Tiger Cub passed its MOT with no issues and I promptly taxed it for £0.0 for another year. That is very good news. The tester was very good and sympathetic to the nuances of an old bike, such as indifferent brakes, rather loud exhaust and the odd oil leak.

I have another 2 years before Honda CX500 becomes tax exempt

Took the K16 to work on the Isle of Wight for a couple of days, nice 600 mile round trip

What an "ickle" ferry :)

Nice!

I can see why you like the Superb and the K16.. both luxobarges eh!

Bet it did the 600 miles without a sweat. Made for double that in a day isnt it!

Yup, not a twinge :), nobody ever believes me though until we go for a ride, it handles exceptionally for 320kg of bike. Not sports bike handling but it will carve its way through back roads without having broken a sweat.

Biblical noise as well, the standard cans are properly fruity at 3.5 k onwards

I took advantage of the decent weather the other day and went a run on the bike.

Roads were dead!

Fitted the new lithium ion battery, unbelievable lightweight, reset all the clocks. I'll take it for spin over the weekend.

Also went for a little ride round the shops on the CX500  old school fun, I'll add the cool later.

Only 35 years between them :o It's not an optical illusion, CX really only does come up to the seat of KTM.

Removed the Akrapovic can and refitted the stock can so that the Givis will fit for a bit of light touring

Went out in the rain for a ride in the traffic. Dry pleasure riding is fantastic but it can de-sensitise you if not careful!

Sold it! :D Been thinking about it for a while, put it up and sold straightaway. I'm being sensible for a bit but I'll still have the moped for now.

Matt, a bit extreme but you have your reasons and you still have the moped to have fun on.

I hope you didn't sell it to your brother!

Gutted mate.

Wont be long before you get the itch for another though

Finally prised the PD oiler out of it's box...

I could have fitted it in about an hour, but being OCD about hiding wires and tubes, it took most of the day.

The reservoir is tucked behind the fairing with the fill tube coming out by the headstock. The timer fits neatly under the seat, with the mini pump cable tied to the loom.

The NC has an accessory harness fitted, it had a spare switched live connector so I used that.

I'm glad I took the time to clean the swingarm when it was off to do the chain, it made it so much easier to fit the tube clips.

Thanks for the tip about priming the tubes CWARD.

Did the reservoir to pump one too. The oil was dripping out of the wick within a couple of pumps. :):)

:D:D:D:D No, thankfully.

I just havent had the time to use it, plus tbh when I do I spend my whole time checking my speed because by 3rd gear I'm in ban territory. I've got some bits I need to pay and then I miss having a quick car so I'm punting the money into that, and the wedding fund. Once thats sorted and paid for then I'll look for something again, but something a little less powerful, the MT07/09 both look good. See what happens, but I still have the scooter and handily, my Dads bandit lives in my garage most of the time.

Yeah no point having it if you dont ride it tbh. I see that wedding fund is getting in the way again.. no good matey ;) hahaa.

Not sure how much slower the 09 is the than the CB? Worth a test ride.

You might be surprised. They're light, really light, and the power is in the mid range and spread up to the top, so not peaky.

I like the sound of the riding position of the 09, apparently a little more supermoto than sports naked but my head is filled with cars at the moment :D

Got it loaded up and ready to head to scotland on saturday.

Not like i need much to survive. Barely filled half of one pannier :D

Nevermind.. should keep it light and nimble for the Scottish roads!

Where are you heading to? I had a great ride back down from work in Inverness a fortnight ago. I bagged one of Scotland's 3 days of sunshine per year for that trip :)

I'm heading back up on Sunday night on the K1600, got a Config Manager Upgrade to do at the University so may bump into you (not in the literal sense :) ) I'm up all week and heading back home on Friday morning, then pack the bike up Saturday and off to Normandy for a week with my lad as pillion and a couple of friends.

PS, the weather will be fine, it's just the wrong clothes that may catch you out :)

One of my best rides ever was in pouring rain and wind coming back through Glenshee. No other traffic and everything was just stringing together perfectly, I was in that magical zone where it was just rolling bends, rolling the throttle and not a care in the world, even though it was ****ing rain :)
