Mines just about to tick over on 69,000 miles. I have a long way to go but I have no intention of parting with it!

Just about run in then.

You know i don't think that statement is too far off tbh. I sold mine with 122k on the clock and the last 2 years it ran better performance wise than the first 6 years. Granted it was well maintained and all split pipes changed dump valves etc but really 100k is probably just freeing it up!!

I've owned a bunch of pre & post 100k VAG cars, & without exception the 100k+ cars have all felt quicker. My current A4 is now on 215k & just gets better & better.

Would you include the diesel engines in that or petrol? I've now got a mk2 170 tdi and it just doesn't feel as lively as the mk1 vrs. Like it's holding back. But it only has 69k on the clock so like we've said probably not ran in.

Yep the diesels are the same in my experience.

Good to know things can only get better!!

Modern engines are great now though. I remember years ago going to look at old escorts thinking oh 70 thousand miles is some mileage!! The rust was awful as well.

VAG 1.8T petrols & 1.9TDi's are pretty bullet proof, but the 2.0 deisel is prone to catastrophic oil pump failure!!!!

I have heard about that. I thought they changed the pump design on Octavias?

The Mk1 one runs rings around the Mk2 shame the seats and carpet were a crap colour.Wind noise was very annoying paint work crap on spoilers, loved oil a litre every 1000 mls wtf

went wrong with Vw couldnt wait to get shot of my mk 2 went like the clappers thou.

Now an old fuddy owner of japans engineering and build quality and what a difference, runs rings round Vw and the paint work is flawless smooth.
