cruise control retrofit a tale of stress and woe

Featured Replies

really missed having cruise control and being one of the special editions i was unable to add options to this vehicle so all mods i have done have been retrofitted

anyway decided i wanted cruise control and as luck would have it a fellow board member (EDDIE NL) was selling one

deal done and once the kit arrived i was gutted to see german instructions although eddie had provided pretty simple to understand  instructions

had a word with my VW guy and we decided to fit it

car went in ableit late in the afternoon and it was evident that it was not an initial straight forward fit he has done a few octavias in the past and didnt realise it was a big a job as it turned out to be and time constraints meant it could not be done that day

car went in a few days later and in the meantime to try and help out i set about trying to get a more english translation of the kufatec instructions that were german and ended up doing a literal translation using our good friends at google andeven contacting tech1e to try and obtain a genuine skoda fitting guide to assist with cable routing etc (i just wanted to get as much information as possible a bad habit i have im told)

anyway it turned out that eddies instructions were bang on perfect and work commenced

well all in all what a complete pain in the ar5e fitting the kit

then onto the anti tamper bolts fitted to the ecu again a ball ache getting them off and i need to order a couple of the shear bolts to return it to once was condition

coding was done to the ecu then bcm

all done and working

BIG BIG thanks to EDDIE NL sorry i have been hassling you bro so much

and thanks to tech1e for sending me the oe install guide

mods wise i am pretty much done i have everything i need fitted would have liked to maxidot it but according to eddie its not as easy a swop as normal due to the manufacturer of the current instrument cluster so imo that kind of rules out fitting a satnav unit as it works better if you have maxidot integration but thats just my opinion

Well done, how do you find it? And does it use your green lcd display to display speed settings?

It's exact same as oe and yes the green symbol comes on

I fitted it to my previous car (Seat Cordoba PD130) using the proper kit.

I had the German instructions which was ok as I speak pretty good German.

I found it actually not too bad. The hardest part of course was routing a wire to the ECU but I didn't need to remove it at least.
