Engine Oil Level

Featured Replies

Will it seriously damage the engine if the engine oil level is slightly above the required level?

I was getting an oil change message on the dashboard computer and like a complete and utter ****, I put a solitary litre of oil in.

If it has to be dealt with by a Skoda mechanic, my dealership is 13 miles away.

Is it safe to drive this distance - or does the engine oil level have to be seriously over-full before any damage will occur?

Cheers,

Terry Walsh

What engine.?

Have you read the Owners Manual.?

The Oil level should be checked at operating temperature. (the manual might say 'warm')

Only the 1.2 44kw engine level is checked cold.

?

So where is the oil on the dipstick with a hot check.

Or if it is well above area A on the dipstick on a cold check do not drive it.

Years ago a main dealer overfilled my Nissan Micra and I managed to loosen the sump plug just enough for the oil to dribble out. You have to be careful and tease the sump plug to allow a small flow and not a gush.

Or you could ask your friendly local garage man to use his oil suction "wand" thingy down the dipstick hole to extract a small amount, as if he was starting to drain it prior to an oil change.... Might do it for free, if you're a regular customer like me!
