Transparent Lorries

The prototype lorry is not actually transparent, but Samsung's Safety Truck design involves a very simple idea.

A wireless camera on the front of the lorry is connected to four monitors on the back, providing a video feed showing other drivers what the blocked out road in front looks like, thus giving the illusion of a transparent carriage.

I thought it was an article to stop stowaways on lorries at ports !

That should be priority - had 6 in a lorry we received the other day. Untold amounts of damage.

Is that a good idea? I predict a lot of accidents on blind bends when knobs overtake because it's "clear"

If people left a decent distence to start with theyd be able to see alot more

Instead they follow 6 foot behind and miss most the opertunities, then end up overtaking dangerously

Lets hope the signals from the wireless camera don't get mixed up with other lorries close by!

Just something else to distract the driver rather than they concentrate on dealing with everything around them.. Clever but dangerous.  Also fraught with so many problems.  Far too many people now travel so close to the back of large vehicles that they will never see if it is safe to overtake yet it doesn't stop some of them from just pulling out.

Not a safety feature as far as I can see just a gimmick.

The thing it clearly will show is what we mostly know already is the HGV is not causing the line of vehicles it is the Road Captain or Caravan in front of the HGV.

Let's hope no one switches the dvd

Crawler Lanes will be very confusing were the HGV in front shows the rear screen of a HGV in front showing the rear of an HGV in front,

and to your left there are a line of HGV's filming each other.

Im a captain George.

I was promoted earlier. On this very forum.

But i see what youre saying and its very true (: but people would also still see that if they kept a decent distance (:

Really,

See a Rover 75, or even a Nissan Micra in front of a Lorry by staying further back from the lorry

I am back in the Eddy where the driver sees me in their mirrors and i get a tow while hypermileing and its often difficult to see why the HGV needs to then knock 10 mph off their speed when they are already doing under 50 mph.

Yeah. You can see the opposite direction is clear atleast for a short term (because youre following at a decent distance), so without gaining speed, move over to the other opposite side of the road and take a good look, before deciding to open up and shoot past, or just popping back in behind the lorry.

I do it quite often on the bike if im unsure, and obv dont want to open up and realising its a space that doesnt exist. (:

Yours sincerely

Captain :) haha

We can all see the other side of the road if we peek out,

i was talking about seeing my side of the road with the camera facing forward showing what we are following.

I meant seeing infront of the lorry. Peak out, have a good look whats infront of it, you can usually see.

Or wait for a corner

Everyones got their own ways havent (: no doubt it would benefit some yeah (:

I am not passing if getting the tow while hypermiling and traveling for many miles through average speed cameras on the likes of

the A77, where Tachographs seem to not be required by McBurney or Norfolkline

even now on the Pilot Stretches of the A9 where they can do 50 mph legally.

Transparent lorries? Mmh, just can't see it, myself...

Would you after looking and assessing your move from a TV screen, pull out in your pride and joy, with your family in the car, into the oncoming lane???

I know I wouldn't!!

Me neither. I dont believe anyrhing until i see it for myself (:

You might assess if you are going to have a look though.

?

How do you make that judgement at the moment, or do you just guess,?

'looks like it is safe to look to see if a pass is going to be possible!'.

We'll probably see these on trucks very soon, but they'll put up an advert for a new telly just as you're about to go for it.

Or there will be mass pile ups / tail backs if they show the Victoria Secret adverts

There will always be a natural distrust for the latest technology.

I know you wouldn't catch me boarding a pilot-less plane!

It'll be interesting to see how far these driver-less Google cars get.

I'm sure autopilot will be an optional extra on the Merc S class within about 5yr and for the rest of us in about 10yr.
