Paint Peeling from Alloy

Featured Replies

Hi there - Recently bought a 2014 Skoda Superb 2.0 to and the top coat of alloy is flaking of my near side front wheel and a small section of the body coloured bumper. I took it to the dealer and they said that it looked as though something corrosive had been in contact with it and that it wasn't covered under warranty.

I took it to a coach builder just as a second opinion and he says that this was nonsense as it was only the top coat that was coming away from the primer that was still intact. He says it was a warranty issue. What do I do now as I'm not really up for a fight with a dealer I've lost trust in and looking for suggestions?

1)Try another dealer.

2) Take the findings of your independent paint specialist to the original dealer and challenge their 'brush-off'.

3) Contact Skoda UK and ask them to open a case...

4) Take pictures for evidence.

The dealer is as said giving BS. I have change my alloys with the dealers support. The only thing you need to make sure of is that you are not allowing the "local" Kurds, Afgans or whatever to be cleaning your car as they do not use neutral ph cleaning liquids. This can show in as something as simple as the plastic wheel nut covers. They can become discoloured which is an indicator of non neutral ph liquids.

I agree. Don't be put off. This is the standard "approved" rejection on anything to do with paint issues, and not limited to VAG products; all the manufacturers do this. All the nonsence they come out with - "chemical" or "particle" fallout, "acid rain", "reaction of the paint with "some-other" chemical". Whilst this can happen, its generally all rubbish. Once I had Renault rejecting a warranty claim on a 6 month old Laguna because "what's happened is someone has thrown iron-filings on the car, which have embedded themselves in the paint". "Really" says I, "so how have they managed to embed themselves on the OS of the car, on the bottom of the doors and under the bloody bonnet?!" Yeah, it was repainted...

I agree, keep pushing on this with the dealer.  They will try and fob you off as much as they can.  I am still battling with the dealer and Skoda over paint that pealed on my roof and boot (they're claiming the same BS over acid etc).  Its still not sorted and they won't be getting my business again if they don't fix it.

Have the skoda dealers been on the   "the computer says No"  course ? :x
