Skoda Dealers; Air Con Check and Brake Fluid Change May 1st to 31stJune

Featured Replies

So they changed the brake fluid, but the re-gassing took a

turn for the worst. A hole in the condenser, new one required,

£498 please (inc. £160 labour.)

'What you never had you might not miss'.

If the A/C has not been working and you never noticed, is it worth getting repaired?

Obviously it is, but then many never bother doing so, and when the car is traded in a Dealer Never checks and the next owner

discovers or not that the A/C does not work.

Front still needs to come off the car, and then the Re-gassing.

So who do you want doing it the Professionals, or the Professionals.

DOH,

Now i am confused. Maybe better the Devil you think you know.

Use your Local air con re-gassers. Or your Local garage.

Not a difficult job at all.

Take in the part you purchased and walla.

Just because it says Skoda on an expensive name plate above the door doesnt mean they are any more Pro than anyone else.

And if it saves £200 quid, I'm all for that.

Of course get a quote first from the Air con people, then compare.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Correct.

Usually the best professionals went into the Volkswagen or Audi Workshop where the more prestige badge was above the door

and on the chest badge of the dust coat.

Or,

They went self employed, served the public with better service & uninflated prices.

Get the dealer to put in a claim to Skoda UK - the condenser unit has changed design to prevent holing and from what I have read, Skoda will cover the cost of replacement since the original one was flawed in design.

If it's near 'trade time' would you bother, remembering the dealer will do it at a lower cost to himself for resale, obviously.

You could use it as an excuse for a new car )))

I drove to Castle Cary and back today to collect my caravan and without

air con .....  It Was Hot, even the windows open only brought in warm humid air

So I have given them the go ahead to fit a new unit.

Now I need to improve the protection for the new unit

some sort of Stone Guard, a stainless steel wire mesh?

is there such a thing?or shall I have to make my own?

There is a thread on here (in the Yeti technical guides I think) where someone fitted stone protectors to their upper and lower grills.

I keep looking at mine and thinking...

This is Wakev,s guide ^^^^^^^^

Tony

It is. I was on my phone at the time and didn't have a link available.

Apparently there are vw/skoda guards for the condenser

Protector. 1KO 820 746 1-off @ £6.41 each + VAT
Securing Clips. 3DO 867 646 8-off @ £0.28 each + VAT

I cannot get the part numbers recognised by dealers (surprise!)

I have located the necessary mesh and have a Winter Grill Cover

to use as a pattern (or even use it as a fitting with the mesh in it)

This company offer is valid to 31 June - must be news to the accountant.

Re post # 16.

'Simply Clever', Skoda can protect the Condenser as OEM.

& if doing it yourself,

Silver Zip Ties on Silver grill,  Black with a Black grill.

I cannot find any Skoda solution to protecting the Condenser,

please enlighten me :D

Edited by gumdrop

Skoda could use the solution that the DIY people are using once they have had to replace the OEM one usually.

Head for thinking, feet for dancing,

Replacement parts counter for profits,

and if everything lasted for ever you would not need replacement OEM or even Pattern Parts.

Err is there a void in here... in 2013 Skoda changed the design of the condenser to reduce the risk of it getting holed.

And it should be fitted FOR FREE if your first one has been holed.

I did say this in post #8 but it seems nobody is listening???

no they are too busy reading...teheeeee.

I read post #8.

It said "from what i have read".

'It Should be FREE".

So is it the case?

or is it the Case of 'If you do not ask a Dealership or Skoda UK CS you will not know, but someone on the forum has read it and

it Could, Should, Might or Might not be the case?

Skoda do fit them protection on condenser's , on some models... like the Octavia scouts that the police and ambulance service use, has them fitted.
