Single beep several seconds after starting and driving off

Featured Replies

Had the car a while now 2010 VRS and as the title says when I start up and drive off within a few seconds it gives one single beep.  I assume it is saying it has done a system check and everything is OK but I do not know if that is it.  I have looked in the handbook and cannot find anything about it.

Just curiosity really.  So of anyone can put me out of my misery so to speak I would be much obliged.

Oh and while I am at it there is a piece of plastic with a finger hole in it on the drivers side of the inside of the centre armrest jumbo box that lifts up but does not come out.  What is that for?  May have to take a photo of it to explain better.

The lift up thing is a/c to the cubby hole. Keeps your can & chocolate bar cool (or hot!)

Its your vent, it vents cold air into the jumbo box

Thanks Guys never knew that.  It is keeping the sat nav cold then perhaps ought to stop that.

Single beep on startup can be a low battery. Lots of threads on here about it.

Are you sure it isn't the central locking locking the doors above a certain speed?

I thought that the anti hijack mode?

Battery is fine and I did think about the central locking but I cannot hear the doors locking.  I suspect that is it though.  Thanks folks.

Mine has started doing that, if I pull the seatbelt at the clip a certain way when worn the fasten seatbelt warning chimes once.

i take it no lights flish up to explain the waning sound - I sometimes get it when I think I've put the handbrake down far enough, but the car disagrees with me.

No lights at all just the single beep.  I will have a look next time I am out in it and see if it is the door locking.

Sounds odd, but have you run a multimeter across the battery to check or are you going on the premise everything's working okay at the mo? Few years ago I had the battery bong cos I was driving less but it went away after a few weeks when I began driving more often.

Well it isn't driven very often at the moment so I suppose that is something that I should check.  I have a multi meter but have only ever used it as a continuity tester so not sure how to check the battery with it.

Could be it then. The more I drove it again, it went away and stayed away. Didn't actually stop anything at all from working, I think it's just an alert to let you know it's not at it's ideal charge. For a while I thought it was the low temp warning as it goes off when the outside ambient temp drops below 4 degrees, but it didn't sound the same. It's more of a bong than a beep if it's the low battery noise.

Presuming there's a dial to change what it does, just set it to 12v and put probes on the terminals on the battery block. If you don't get anything, use the leads the other way round. :)

OK so an update.  Was out in the car yesterday and had a round journey of over 200 miles and today the car is still doing it's beeping when I start it.  The battery cannot be down after that journey surely also it is not the doors locking as once it does it I can still open it from outside through the open window.

Puzzled.

Bluetooth connecting??

Ah!  No probably not as I only have Parrott.  But then again maybe!

I don't know about Parrots but presumably they are integrated somehow and may pass a signal across...

MFD/Tripmeter isnt telling you a service is due soon is it? I know my father-in-law's superb beeps/bongs at him when its near due..

There is no warning come up on the Maxidot at all.  Just one beep and it is whether you are moving or stationary after several seconds.  I don't think the battery is down as I was sat at a hospital last night waiting for someone for about 3 hours and had the radio on and the car fired up no problem.  Had the battery been under the weather I think the radio would have caused it to struggle when starting.

Yes I suppose it could be the parrot as of course it does work through the cars sound system but cannot even work the parrot properly as it baffles me and the booklet that comes with it is written in Double Dutch.  I remain confused but thank you all for your suggestions.

Find the Parrots in-line fuse in its loom and pull it out, then try the car - that will rule out the Parrot kit.

I like your thinking so all I have to do now is find it!  I did notice something flash up on the radio screen momentarily today when it beeped but it was so quick I couldn't see it.  Going to have another better look next time I start it later.

A heavy something placed on the passenger seat?

Temperature sensor playing up, and telling you it might freeze?

Low fuel warning because you are parked on a steep slope?
