What was the improvement in your experience?

Does it make for a smoother gear change or is it just to stop the gearbox from whining, if it does any whining that is.

I ordered mine on eBay as a kit.

And what exactly does fitting the shim achieve?

Is it a improvement in gear changing experience? A smoother change?

Its supposed to help if you have difficulty getting into first and reverse or if you have gearbox whine.

I believe its due to a design fault where the circlip holding the shaft wears into the bell housing, causing the shaft to have some play back and forth.

If you have issues give it a try if not leave it alone.

I see - thanks for that, very informative. I don't have any problems so I shall leave it be. If it isn't broken don't fix it.

Pretty much!

I was having some problems and tried to fit it on mine but the gearbox wasnt having any of it, didnt have enough play or wear on the gearbox to fit one in so left the shim out and just fitted the new seal back in place.
