Wow!!

Great pictures Martin

Very nice, I was stuck over at Linton On Ouse. We did stand outside for a while to see if we could see anything but sadly tooooo far away.

That's amazing I LOVE that plane :)

Ahem, I think you'll find your shots are better! I call them snaps for a reason - it just helps that the Vulcan is particularly photogenic :)

I got a few of the underside, but nothing as clear as on your FB post. Mine is just an 18-200 lens, and I wasn't as close to the action as others.

Really nice pictures. Awesome flying machine and the noise from those Olympus engines is unreal.

Very nice. Will hopefully add some tomorrow.

Caught a few shots yesterday as she flew over Newark Air Museum and a couple of videos as well.  Not many more chances to see the old girl in flight and hear that NOISE!!!!!!

Great piccies.

I wonder, even when the hours are up for flight, will they not be tempted to do some throttle up runway runs like they did with the victors?

Clearly this can only be done from one location.

Yep, it will still do fast taxi runs like the ones at Wellesbourne and Southend.

Not too sure about that because it is based at Finningley which is a Live airport and doing taxi runs will be difficult I expect.  I did a hangar tour the other month and I seem to recall them saying they would not be doing but I stand to be corrected.

I was discussing this at the weekend, apparently there may be some hissy fits of the legal variety about ownership of the airframe.

If it remains at Finningley (it'll always be Finningley to me) then yes they'll struggle to do runway movements of any kind, not just is it a live runway with paying customers using it but also the Vulcan will not be covered in the same way by CAA which may cause issues.

The other alternative is to fly it down to Bruntingthorpe and be based there as a museum and it'll have access to a runway without issues.

I think the story may evolve from what I've been told by someone in the know.

All the stories I've heard are that it will stay at Robin Hood

Although it is a live airport, the flight plan is pretty sparse to say the least, so slotting in an occasional taxi run would appear to present little problem

They manage it at Southend and that is quite a busy airport these days.

Remember seeing one of these back when they were on the verge of being decommissioned at Leuchars doing full power flypasts with the bomb bay doors wide open. This was in the days where the displays could use the entire airspace not just in front of the ropes so they were doing full power turns and letting people get the engines straight on.

The feeling of shock and awe when you heard (or should that be felt) the wall of noise from those engines is something I will always remember.

Whilst I accept what it says on their web pages and I understand about Robin Hood having a sparse flight plan I still foresee problems.  If on one of these runs it was to have problems it could well put the runway out of action for some time.  I know they intend to have a dedicated building for her and use it as a centre for Engineering Excellence but I think Bruntingthorpe would be a better option and she could strut her stuff whenever.

I understand where you are coming from chris and it'll be along side another taxiing v bomber too.

Shame in a way cos Finningley is also a spiritual home too, sadly a one plane museum display probably wont work. Like the idea of an engineering excellence centre though.

What ever will be will be.

Has anyone heard the news that there is going to be an Airshow at Church Fenton 6th September? Just waiting for the official news release. Maybe a last chance to see XH558?

The last flying date has been rumoured to be 18th October, not sure where

As far as where she ends up, again rumour is that it's already been decided, and isn't up for discussion

Yes I think you are right Brian as they seem set on this idea of having young people come to view it in the new centre and hopefully persuade some to become engineers in the future.  I have a feeling there is more to it than that as they must have secured funding from somewhere for it all.  In the meantime I think we should all just be pleased to see her in the air when we can because there will not be any more chances at the end of the season.
