now looking at a vw polo instead fabia

Featured Replies

after struggling to locate a fabia white for daughter, there seems to be more vw polos on market privately and seem priced as good as fabia.

any advice on buying or what to look out for, looking at 1.2 what size bhp is best.

most fabia for sale are the vrs, but that aint good for a first time car owner

If a first timer id go second level up so theres a bit of power if needed but not enough to get her in too much trouble..

just been reading the chains on the polos in 2010 models and other yrs prone to failing a about 60k, which models have belts then?

so I think that 80hp I think

Do you have to buy Privately.?

You might pay less than at a Trader or Independent Garage, but then you might find a Dealer with a car not selling and which they

might want to just get off the lot.

A 3 Months Warranty from a Car Dealer even if not worth the paper or verbals can be better than the word of a private buyer.

You have some come back and the Trading Standards will get involved, but not with a genuine Private Sale.

Have you put a 'Wanted Advert'  in Briskoda Forum and see what people might come forward with.

Chains on which engine? The tsi?

The new tsi's have a belt

Depends what sort of year polo youre looking? Youll find alot of basic polos have the 1.2 htp 60hp engine in.

I know the one she looked at was match 1,2 60hp unsure if underpowered though, just forums complain of vw and chains breaking

I honestly think pcp is the best route at times

It might well be.

'Just add fuel' /Peugeot,  or some of the other manufacturers schemes.

All depends if wanting to get a New Car, and monthly payments, use credit or buy a used car with cash.

Ive got the 70hp version in my fabia, and mums got the 64bhp in her polo.

Its not underpowered as such, it doesnt struggle to keep up with traffic by any means, but overtakes do take abit of planning sometimes.

For what it is, its a cheap, simple, hassle free, reliable engine, will achieve 50mpg and should go on for quite some time im hoping.

It depends what youre looking for in a car, but test drive one and see what you think. You dont have to rev it as much as youd think. Peak torque is at 3000rpm iirc

She has a certain amount cash ben left to her, but dealers prefer if you finance it, seems like cash is no longer king.

Just want to try and get the best car out there for her cash  she buy a car that's been to the moon an back probably a cat c, d if it was right colour, im the boring sensible one

Polo? Fabia?

Try a 2015 (not the 2016 just in the shops) Ibiza Toca 1.4

3 doors are about 8600 brand new.  5 doors 9100.

look how yummy it is...

SWMBO is soooo happy :)

IBIZA EDIT

Cash is king! on a PCP this was about 13800  :o

They do prefer you to finance yeah, does my head in. But ofc they make more money doing it that way.

They try to automatically assume its finance too. Just gotta keep telling em no lol.

60 BHP is alright for a first time driver, and quite good on track too, but if you live somewhere with hills get one with a bit more poke.

I dno. My 70hp gets held up on hills most the time, i live in the peak district.

Alot of drivers dont seem to know when to change down.

A 1.6 labouring doing 1500rpm isnt as happy as a 1.2 doing 3k revs up a steep hill (:

What about a Skoda Citigo?

regarding the new car suggestion:-

Only "good" thing about schemes like Peugeot's just add fuel is, insurance and servicing is all taken care of. I started out with Peugeot 17 years ago with the "free insurance" offer - it actually worked out cheaper than the monthly price for insuring my metro!!

They also "accelerate" your NCB if you didn't have an accident in the 2 years cover period, for 4 years my insurance was paid for in the car, which worked out cheaper than monthly payments on insurance alone. However after 4 years my insurance had dropped a massive amount, so the scheme wasn't as worth while.

It's not a bad way if you want hassle free motoring for a few years.

We got a 2013 1.2 TSI Ibiza for my wife to run about in. Its the 115hp 4cyl, only SEAT seem to use it. Good wee motor.
