Top Mounts

Featured Replies

I've ordered these from CP4L as I am renewing my suspension http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/suspension-mounting/?609440320&1&9c766b79338041b27948d51b769ad5bd9d492edc&000872

However I am now concerned from looking on VWSpares that I haven't got everything I need, will this be the full top mount or just the bearing? Ie should I have ordered this? http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2004/p/car-parts/suspension-and-steering/suspension/suspension-mounting/?609440760&1&f55cda95f0a317948d03fd48111048cb5e1bddd4&000872

Cheers!

Lemforder part number 609440320 (in your first link) is just the bearing.

You need a pair of top mounts too http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Febi-Front-Suspension-Strut-Top-Mount-VW-Polo-Fox-Skoda-Fabia-Seat-Ibiza-Hatch-/351170061580?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51c35de50c

I feared that, I didn't miss anything on the website (ie its them not me) did I?

Is the second link the full set? My order has been delayed so was thinking of getting that one instead.

Pretty sure it's just the rubber mount but not 100% sure.

That first one is not described correctly, so maybe reason with them, first one should be getting called a bearing for a top mount if the picture is correct. The second one should be described as a top mount set/kit comprising of a top mount and a bearing.

Very very misleading so no wonder you are confused, can you not cancel and get ECP to deliver them - might cost slightly more I have not checked, but I'd hope that ECP website describes them a lot better muppets!

Of course I could have remembered that CP4L is an arm of ECP - maybe I'm the muppet, so you really do need to phone them, also each top mount needs 3-off securing bolts and a new strut top selflocking nut.

Without wanting to be nasty, you do realise that getting to these bearings/mounts, you will need to compress the springs and probably remove the struts from the hub - and more.

The top of the suspension comes in two parts.

You have the top mount - they are the rubber bush, they take some impact and abuse.

Then you have the top mount bearing - this is what holds the weight of the car between the car itself and the suspension, they have a bearing inside allowing the steering wheel to turn smoothly. The bearing sits inside the top mount but is easily removed and changed.

Hope that's cleared things up.

I'll give em a ring tomorrow thanks. Yeh They are the sister company of ECP same part No.s and everything.

Lol, I was aware of the work likely to be involved, that why I'm sub-contracting that bit out and supplying the parts.

So there are bolts at the top of the strut that need replacing too?? Anyone got any part numbers?

Here you go.

Wino is officially the parts man now.

Brilliant cheers, so I need one No5 and three No7? Per strut?

Yes, unless you're replacing the actual struts as you normally get a new top nut supplied with them.

When I did my top mounts and bearings I just reused the six mount bolts, but that's up to you.

Cheers, will try and get some ordered Tomoz.

rang cp4l, but del came today.

Got SKF strut bearings delivered, even after the woman being convinced it was the mounts that would come.

She also stated that I should have ordered the mount kit (669440200) except that their system says it doesn't fit my car (it does on her system)

Now two things, is SKF a decent brand or should I demand the lemforder advertised?

Or if the Corteco (2nd link first post) are the full kit are they better / worse than lemforder /SKF?

SKF are a very respectable bearing manufacturer, to the best of my knowledge.

SKF are a huge brand, they have been making bearings for as long as I have been in the trade, they do water pumps and timing belt kits as well.

I'd be more than happy to fit SKF parts.

Thanks lads, I'll see if I can get the actual top mounts from ecp but if not I'll get that kit, as on ecp it appears against my car, but not on cp4l.

The kit is SKF so happy to buy with your recommendations.

Sounds good :)

The Febi ones I linked to are good. Febi make very decent stuff http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Febi-Front-Suspension-Strut-Top-Mount-VW-Polo-Fox-Skoda-Fabia-Seat-Ibiza-Hatch-/351170061580?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51c35de50c&clk_rvr_id=860056661582&afsrc=1&rmvSB=true

Oh, and another vote for SKF bearings - very good manufacturer.

I'd seen the febi ones cheers was hoping to get it sorted this weekend so didn't want to rely on eBay delivery times.

I'll try and get cp4l to next day me some replacements or something.

Just realised that was ecp, beggar. Lol.

Haha :)

Need to find a part No. For that febi part to see if I can get it from my local ECP, neither of my two local ones have that kit stocked.

Do you want me to ring them and sort it once and for all?

If you don't mind, can you drop by sheff to get the parts here for Tomoz to? ;)

Sorry I wasn't been lazy, I couldn't see the part No. on mobile. Found now on laptop (609440261), although it is saying this part wont fit my car.

Rang ECP who said I could buy a QDrive part for £18.90, each or a lemforder both about 42, all in. The Part no for the lemforder one he gave me actually leads you to the second link in my original post.  What a bloody farce!

:D

Let the garage do it :)
