Air Con stopped working 2009 Superb greenline

Featured Replies

Hi all

Air Con stopped working last Tuesday,  had the gas checked and its fine no problems there, guys reckons its a new compressor that is required (said hell fit for €310 all in), I'm a bit weary as I did read somewhere that it might be a regulator valve that's causing the prob. green light does appear when you turn on the A/C but no cold air or noise out of the engine.

Also there has been a bad odour coming from the vents in recent weeks prior to it stopping, I changed the pollen filter and made a bit of a difference.

I would appreciate assistance on this,

regards

Can't comment on the reason for the system not working but the smell will be from a Bacterial infection of the coiling coil and associated ducts.

Basically when the systems running the cool air causes the ducts to cool and thus water vapor condenses on them, over time this moisture collects dusts etc which have bacteria on them and these then cause the smells. Its more common on systems that are run intermittently with the chiller on as the warmer air encourages the bacterial growth.

Quite easy to cure - pop into local Halfrords and buy a tin of Aircon cleaner, start car, close all doors, windows etc, switch on A/C with recirc 100%, set off can, get out of car, close door, WAIT, when prescribed time has elapsed hopefully all the bugs will be dead and the smell gone

The guys who fix the system may do it all for you, good luck with the mechanicals.
