My 2006 VW Passat 3.2 FSI V6 DSG 4Motion

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Thought I would start my own thread which I can update as I do bits etc.

So I sold my Octavia TSI vRS a while ago and since then been searching around for replacements but nothing took my fancy. Was looking at RS6's but the chocolate gearbox put me off - along with the price for what would be a old car which would have left me with nothing for a spares and repairs fund. Was looking at what other cars I could use that would be a sleeper and ended up on an ad for a 2006 "56" VW Passat 3.2 FSI V6 DSG 4Motion. Went to look at it last week and for the money it was a steal so done a deal and drove it home. She has some issues that needs to be dealt with - mainly the rust but will get that to the dealer shortly as it's all covered under the 12 year warranty (and a known issue). Coil pack recall hasn't been carried out yet so that can happen at the same time.

Car is really well specced with Xenons, Auto lights/wipers, dimming rear view mirror and drivers side mirror, folding side mirrors, Electric heated leather/Alcantara seats, Front and rear parking sensors, Auto hold, side airbags, electric sun roof, and built in booster seats in the rear. Don't think there was anything else but will add it on here if I remember.

So far I have ordered a set of oem chrome headlight, window and boot/fuel switches, RNS 510, MK6 Golf GTI multi function steering wheel and a OEM Bluetooth kit. I want a new instrument cluster as well but seem to rare as anything - am after a passat CC colour unit (part # 3C8 920 98*) if anyone knows of anything for sale please let me know. Also bought some alloys from an R36 I believe (can't remember what they're called now) but has new tyres on them as well which is a bonus as needed to buy some new one's anyway  :D

Car runs really well, smooth as anything and pulls like a train. It's just so much more refined than anything I have owned before, even better on fuel than the octavia was :D

Anyway, some pics - these are from the for sale ad, haven't had time to do a proper clean yet so they will do for now;

Very nice :)

These are a bargain for what you get.

very nice, got me looking at these now! Is it the higher tax bracket and what's it like on fuel?

Not very many around mate. Have a few friends with R32 golf's but not enough space for me so this was perfect.

Very high bracket lol - £490 I think. Fuel wise I'm still working out - not used enough yet to work out accurately.

Nice motor very rare tbh I think it's the only one I've seen

I saw this last night (2/7/2015) coming out of the Dockside car park rather briskly :) Looked good when i saw you at Morrisons too hahah

Unfortunately this weekend is booked out so need to wait a bit to get everything done. Waiting on new front and rear bushes as well so lots of work to fit in!

Been out of action for a few weeks due to a hospital stay after a minor (non car related) accident.

Well on the mend now so need to get on and get bits done. After I fitted the RNS 510 I had the battery drain issue so first job was to get a later revision can bus gateway fitted. Nice and easy job, sits behind the climate control panel;

IMG_20150721_214704_zps4gierszb.jpg

Then over the weekend with all the rain I got into an absolutely soaked drivers side footwell, traced it up and was the drains for the sunroof that was blocked as well as the plenum chambers - cleared that out and issue sorted :D

Been a while since I have updated this, and had a fair few bits done so here goes;

Couple of weekends ago me and a friend set out to do the front bushes and get the new AP Coilovers in;

Rear spring was broken;

Bad picture but this is how she is sitting now;

IMG_20150928_072405_zpsaibyvp4o.jpg

I then drove to Munich for the Oktoberfest - no issues. Car feels so much more responsive now! Got 400 miles to a tank (normal round town driving I get 280) so happy with that :D

Still need to do rear bushes but they are a bit of a pain and will get it done when I have time.

New MK6 steering wheel has also been installed and coded so all buttons function as they should.

Fast forward to today and the new colour cluster has been installed. Still need to do a few bits but it's in and working :) I have installed bluetooth as well, didn't work on the old cluster but works a treat on the new one.

So that's where I am so far :)

The cluster updates are a great mod! Something I'm considering for mine... :thumbup:

Your car is coming along nicely! :rock:

I went along to AmD yesterday for a rolling road day. Wasn't really sure what to expect but came away really happy seeing as all she has is a panel air filter and is run on 99ron fuel;

When I bought my car I noticed there was some rust on the tailgate, didn't think much of this as it's a known issue with a TPI associated to it and should be covered under VW's 12 year rust warranty. Once I had bought the car I found there was more rust on the arches and wings, some of the doors, and on the bonnet on the inside. All should be covered under the mentioned warranty. It was taken to a dealer and they sent all the info to VW HQ. VW put the claim value at £8k and made a 50% offer to get it repaired. This wasn't an option for me as 1) I wasn't going to pay £4k and 2) it should be covered under the warranty. Only recently I also discovered there is also rust on the chassis rail which is a bummer :(

A lot more research was done and I found that on the estate Passat's all these rust issues were very common and there was a manufacturing issue/defect from factory. VW HQ was very hit and miss on actually repairing the issues as they should under their warranty. We went back and forth and both myself and VW made some offers but we couldn't reach an agreement. I got a court approved vehicle inspection done to get their advice on whether the rust is a manufacturing defect and whether it should be covered or if it is just because of external factors. They advised that these issues are all manufacturing defects and as the paint depth is as it was from the factory it should be covered under VW's warranty. VW refused to accept this and after dealing with the executive team for ages we are now at the point of me going to small claims court to get them to either repair the car or accept an offer.

So I am stuck for now. If the issues were caused by external factors then I would accept that however they aren't and it's been proven. The person I have been dealing with has tried using scaring tactics, lying and making stupid offers to try and get rid of me - I accept that's his job but I bought this car as it's something I wanted, it was different and I had plans for the car to make it an ultimate sleeper. Now however I am not doing anything further until this is settled. A shame really, but hopefully will be sorted soon :)

Wow - that is pretty severe mate. Sounds like you are really pushing the right way to get it sorted.

I hope you get a suitable result to this very soon.
