SDI issues

Hey. I'm looking to buy a 1.9 sdi...yes I know they're slow as slugs. But its what iv decided on as speed matters little to me and I want a bulletproof engine with old school tech in it. That said a few things are on my mind with regards to the Skoda fabia 1.9 sdi cars I've looked at.

1. Suspension bushes...they seem to be a recurring issue on these cars...are they really that prone to failure and is it across all cars with this engine? I.e is a polo sdi or an Octavia sdi just as likely to have these suspension issues?

2. Gearboxes.... I hear the odd tale of gearbox failures on sdi's...is this common?

Any other gremlins to look for and how common are these issues? Thanks in advance.
