MY16 steering wheel buttons

Featured Replies

I can't find a reference in the manual or work out what the button with the car symbol (above the phone button) does.

Anybody know?

DON'T PRESS IT....OPEN THE SUN ROOF FIRST....Ohhhh you didn't spec a sun roof, then the switch is inactive.

Either it turns the bass up to rockin' levels or activates lane departure and front assist warnings?

Could it be to do with Smartlink.

I think Skoda's User Interactiin team need shooting, how does that symbol represent a sunroof? What are the splashes at wheel level for?

I think the sunroof response was a joke!!!!!

looks like the  splashes is water, close sunroof, it's raining    :rain:

Simples

I think it's the voice control button.

It clearly for shaking the car when its wet, just like a dog would do.

it's to show you what driver assist features you have active

All wrong it's the siren button to get middle lane hoggers out of the way!! :P

No really the right answer is a few posts up.

Yes its the assistant systems menu button for quick access to turn them on or off....i guess as now all Elegance models come with front assist at least. Lane assist and side scan assist would show in there too if you had them (side scan not available but has been retrofitted by someone on here).

Not sure about earlier vRS's but my Golf has this button on the end of the indicator stalk, where the cruise button would be for regular cruise control.

I am sure that steering wheel button on my Octavia controls the god-awful voice control.

Ok Front assist, but I dont have that feature on my "business plus" spec car, so a pointless button!

Do you have lane assist?

My Golf GTD has the voice control button but doesnt have voice control (kind of glad as its poo anyway)...but whenever I press the button it mutes the stereo but still says "voice control not available" so it happens.

Is it a UK car?

ah but the voice button is very very useful for smart link - I was driving this mornign and realised I'd forgotten to send a text before I left. No problem, hit voice button said "send text to mum", it asked me what the message was, I told it, car then read it back and said "is that what you would like to send" and then off it went.

Now for some reason it didn't read out the response or even tell me one had come in but I suspect I've not set that up properly.

If it can handle a Scots accent then it's doing well

When you press it, it takes you into the drive assist menu. I can turn on land guidance from here

:-) I dont have Smartlink so afraid I wouldnt know haha. That said they may well have given the voice control an overhaul for the MIB2, was disgracefully bad on the MIB1's....the slightest bit of background noise, speak too quickly or say something as it perhaps doesnt expect it to be said and it gets right in a fluster.....more distracting than playing around with the touchscreen haha

seems to work better than MIB1 in my yeti did, I never used that. This one seems better but I think I will jst use android auto as it has more options, eg the ability to send texts and so on which the amundsen native voice recognition doesn't seem to do.

I thought it was to address the low frequency frequency boom  :notme:

What low frequenCy boom? :-) :-)

The Oposite of High Frequency boom

The Oposite of High Frequency boom

Nope, neither in mine

So they've moved the Assistive systems button there on MY16 models, to replace the useless speech recognition button...

But this raises the question, what's in the place where the button used to be in MY15 cars with ACC, at the end of the indicator stalk??

EDIT: Looked at the manual. Apparently the speech recognition button has been moved to replace the useful audio source button. So I guess they've just moved one button and removed another for no good reason...
