RHD Headlight adjustment

Featured Replies

Hi,

After importing the Octavia I've been trying to find a way to "flatline" the headlights but I've yet been able to do so. Where I live, headlights are required 24/7, 365 days a year. This is obviously a problem as my headlights point in the wrong direction. I've been able to get around this for now by using the fog lights as headlights as they won't cause blindness to the other drivers.

I don't have the xeon headlights, just the standard model that's for sale here:

I have to either flatline them, or replace before registration.

We've done left hand drive cars for the UK MOT before using black tape, the problem is where to place it on the headlamp, it can be tricky, even with headlamp beam testing equipment.

It may be better to get a used pair of headlamps.

My 2012 vRS has a lever inside the headlamp that 'flat-lines' the dipped beam.  I have used it on a number of occasions when going to France.  Less than 5 minutes required to change both headlamp units.    I don't know whether this is possible on MKI headlights?

In the short term the stick-on beam adjusters that you can buy for short term beam adjustment should work, but I don't see an alternative (if you want decent lights, that is) to changing the headlamps in the long term.

You should be able to find some used units locally, or try fleabay for Germany, Poland or Czech.

Pm tactical87 - he might sell you his aftermarket head lights that arrived as LHD only...

coouple of guys got the same ones but tac's car stands out in my head :)

Other than masking, what you need can't be done.

If you look at your dipped headlight beam pattern on a flat road the LH edge will illuminate further than the RH edge. For a correct LHD beam pattern, that needs to be reversed, and the only way of doing that is with new (to you) headlights.
