DVD software ...what do you use

Featured Replies

I am using ....or should I say trying to use Nero 6 to copy a dvd (no it's not to get a pirate copy) it's a camcorder dvd disc .....and it is driving me up the wall.....one day it is fine the next day all it does is stop or crash....so what software do you use ...is nero 7 any better?

Thanks for any ideas or reccomendations.

I use Nero v6 Ultra Edition (6.3.1.20) and have never had any problems. What other software are you running at the same time? Nero can sometime get a bit ar$ey if you're running other apps that are using decent amounts of RAM and CPU.

You can't beat Clone DVD 2 for backing up DVD's. Dead easy interface and no coasters. Works everytime.

Rob, if you're having problems extracting the vob files of the original DVD, I'd try something like DVD decrypter. Even if you don't need it to bypass CCS because you're backing up your own movies, it has some useful tools, and you can even burn back onto disc your image.

I am now using Nero 7 ultra edition although I have yet to try to use it to burn DVD's. I found the Nero 6 results quiet poor really.

I had nero 6 and then updated it to nero 6 reloaded (free upgrade 40MB)which does seem a bit better .....but it is really anoying that it decides wether to work or not ...and when......I just left it for a couple of hours and it just did what I wanted......Grrrrrrrrrrrrr ....I can get nero 7 at a special upgrade price by using the present serial number ...for about

DVD decrypter and DVD shrink for copying disks.

AVI2DVD for basic conversion of divx files to dvd and nero7 for authoring disks with menus

Clone DVD does everything for you. No messing about with DVD decrypter or VOB files. You tell it what type of media you have eg R or R/W +/- or DL and it tells you how much % quality you will lose (if any) on your copy. You can remove trailers, menus and other languages to maximise space for the main feature so at least 70% quality is normally acheivable once the program has shrunk the film onto the disc.

I use DVD Fab, this is does a straight copy quality wise, but can also remove trailers languages to save space to help fit on a 4.7 disc, however, it does dual layer as well. It removes region codes, so the disc you burn is multiregion.

i run AnyDVD in the background which does the same thing.

AnyDVD & Clone DVD2 have free updates for life once you purchase them and they are not dear either. Tried Nero but it's a real hastle.
