Tyre fitters and wheel balancing

Featured Replies

I took my car to get some new tyres fitted today. First mistake was not asking them to jack from the jack points before.. the guy seemed a little annoyed when I said you shouldn't jack it up from the sills. They were screwed anyway. *shrugs*

Anyway.. I noticed when I got back home that the little weights are missing from the outside of the wheels but there's a line item for balancing. Is it possible to balance a wheel without having weights on the outside or is it possible the guy was miffed and so didn't bother?

are there any weights on it at all?

Mine have all got weights on the inside.

Can you tell if theyre out of balance? If you take it up to a decent speed

Mine are also on the inside of the alloy ....

For alloys they usually hook them on the inside if they can.

Yes you can balance wheels by having all the weights on the inside, can’t remember the last time I had any on the outside.

What jack points are you referring to? Škoda specifically state to jack the car on the sills.

I'd heard that being able to apply the wheel weights on either the inside or the outside offers an improved chance of better balancing of the wheel.

There are however some wheels that won't hold outer weights so they can only be applied on the inner rim.

Unfortunately the images in the first post have now gone/expired, but I can still find them off the briskoda site.
