Ste's Sunday Shine - Curiosity Wax

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Well - a busy weekend all in all and Sunday finally allowed some detailing duties.

Morning on the gardens, lunch, then watched the Wimbledon final with a few beers.

Weather wise - a cracking day. So come 6pm.... I moved the R36 into the shade.

Air temp was about 18degC; panel temp about 22 or so - but cooler after the foam/wash.

The car had only done a few miles since the last wash - so mainly dust and pollen deposits.

After a typical foam, rinse and wash routine with the following:-

- Blizzard Mint scent SF

- Rinse

- Wash with Dooka pad and Optimum Shampoo

- Rinse

- spray with diluted Last Touch detailer

- Dry with Big Yellow towel

- Door shuts, exhausts and alloys, wipedown with Sonax BSD.

- Tyres with Autosmart Highstyle

So then onto trying a new wax which had been sat for a couple of weeks.... winking at me! ;)  :giggle:

A collaboration project by ODK & Fourthwax - called Curiosity.

Recommended by a few guys and I managed to get this at launch discount price;

but certainly been impressed with every ODK wax I have tried thus far.... so wanted to try this!

Recommended to be applied 1 or two panels at a time and a relatively short cure time expected.

Buffed off with ease, it has to be said and a nice slick finish and deep shine on the paint. :sun:

Anyway - the pictures below..... a little dark/grainy I'm afraid as it was low light by the time I finished.

You get the idea....  thanks for looking

Great gloss there Ste! Looks awesome buddy. Heard lots of good thinks about ODK Waxes. Thanks for sharing buddy.

How did it spread and load onto the pad mate?

Cheers Neil.  Yes - been a big fan of ODK since I tried Sterling wax.

Still to get my hands on some Entourage QD spray as well.

Interesting you ask. I found it a tricky one to load on the pad and spread.

I moistened the pad which helped, but still found it a little grabby at times.

Actually reminds me of Auto Perfection Intensify show wax in this regard.

ie. sometimes grabs a little when applying, but a doddle to buff off.

As always... Wow!

It's inspiring and frustrating in equal measure to look at your work.  I have been very proud of how (2/3rds of) my Octy shines after its first real detailing (roof and bonnet still to do), then I look at what you achieve and feel a bit inadequate!

How many layers of waxes do you think are on there?  It seems you apply more fairly often.  I assume you only strip back once or twice a year?

Thanks for the comment mate. Much appreciated.

The .:R36 was machine polished on 7th June....according to my FB timeline;

and when I say polished - it was a light cleanse/glaze really.

At the time I had just received my Definitive Wax Pro Edition delivery

So that was on there, and 2 coats thereof....finished with QD Pro.

To be fair - I think the low light and shadows last night help the pictures a little.

I'm wanted to see the paint in direct sunlight and check the gloss and flake pop if I'm honest.

I'm certainly enjoying the beading action today - the weather here is very wet today :rain:   ;)

This will be topped up with either AP Intensify Show wax or Definitive Wax Show Edition before DubFiction this Sunday   :sun:

So in the last month, since a light polish/strip back, it's had 3 coats of wax and 2 QD.  Hmmm, it deserves to look good but I'm not far behind.  Mine has had (on both sides and both bumpers) a full decontamination, coat of sealant, 2 coats of wax, coat of drying aid.  I guess the mirror flat machined polished/perfected paintwork on yours vs my never yet touched but still OK 1 year old paint is much of the difference.  The rest being your skill and better products.   I'm using moderate cost stuff that is chosen, I hope, to last well. ( sealant is AG extra gloss protection, wax is Natty's, drying aid AGAW).

I suspect the big difference will show in 6 months..... Yours will have been redone multiple times but mine will have seen nothing but AGAW and sonax BSD. You deserve the shine, keep it up, and please keep sharing/inspiring

I think last time the paint was fully polished last year, it was using Scholl S17+.

This time the paint  was cleansed using AD Cherry Glaze; which is a great value product.

That aside - I don't really see any "better" products in the frame to be honest.

Its just a case of staying on top of it.... and improving the shine as much as you can.

...Detailing.... its addictive!!! :sun:

I simply enjoy trying and testing new and different products.

So - find the products that work for you, your detailing routine, your cars paint, etc

lovely deep shine to the the motor there Ste.  Does the colour look a little darker than normal? or is that the ambient light or my memory?

I know it doesnt take much for one of this forums utmost wax junkies to add another to his collection, but was the appeal for you just the ODK connection or does this wax promise more than the competition at 40notes or so?

Thanks for the comment Simon

The .:R36 colour did look darker in a couple of pictures, mainly fading light and poor camera on the iPhone I think.

On the specific wax selection.... a couple of reasons actually....

ODK for sure, has been up there on my list. Dan has been developing some great products

and he really listens to the feedback from his customers on what the "next" wax should deliver.

Also, as you said the £40-45 price point for one, which has had a few new entries during 2015 that i wanted to compare....

ie.

Definitive Wax Cora £45

ODK/Fourthwax £40

Auto Perfection Intensify £45

Ogle OCD Edition

Bouncer's Vanilla Ice

Chemical Guys 50/50

I've also dug out some favourites from previous years to compare in this price point...

Such as.....

Britemax Vantage

R222 Concours Silver

AutoGlymHD

Just a bit of fun really.... but checking out the new options more than anything.

So Ste, that leaves the question, how does it compare to those big hitters initially?

It's quite a crowded price point within the wax market. You're experience is always greatly appreciated buddy.

Well - early days on the Fourthwax Neil - but first impressions are very good I must say.

As stated above - slightly grabby on application at times; but buffed off very easily.

The car has sat for a couple of days; but didn't seem to gather too much dust given it has been windy

but the dust there was blew off quick enough on a drive out last night.

Beading was very nice as well - I posted a picture on the other thread to show the quality of beadage.

Sadly - I won't be doing a long term durability test on this as I have DubFiction 2015 on Sunday.

So I will be topping up with a show wax prior to this event. This may not be required... but that's my routine.

Thanks for that buddy.

It would be rude not to pop a layer of show wax on it prior to an event. We would expect nothing less. If you've got it, flaunt it!! :sun:

  • 2 weeks later...

Excellent work mate :) have to try this ;)
