another alarm going off by itself thread help:-/

Featured Replies

hi:)

the alarm on my fabia vrs has been going off randomly. its pretty frequent but there does not seem to be a pattern to it. having read loads of previous threads where people have had issues i've already tried the steps below with no luck.

The lights flash when i lock it, so i believe that means all the locks are reporting they're ok? and i've tried hitting the lock button on the key once and twice and it is the same however many times i press it.

doused the boot and bonnet sensors in wd and exercised them.

intermittent wipers appear to be working fine.

how many sensors does the fabia have? is it 3? 1x boot, 1x bonnet & internal sensor behind the internal light?

from a fault finding point of view, if i try disconnecting 1 at a time, will that show up which one is at fault? ie if i disconnect the bonnet sensor and leave for a few days and the alarm doesn't go off, then its pointing at the bonnet sensor? or isn't it as easy as that?

any other places to look or fixes to try? its getting to the point where i don't want to take the car anywhere. i just want to try and get it sorted.

many thanks for your time:)

How soon after you lock it does the alarm go off? It would also be better to have someone with VCDS or a code reader read any fault codes that it might be throwing up.

HOWEVER:- I had the same problem, car parked in my concrete block garage & would randomly go off! Nothing wrong with car! Neighbour in back street has a Fabia also, so double checked keys & tried his in mine etc.....nothing, total blank!

Watched him start his car (diesel engine) & my car alarm went off! His starter/electronics was tripping a frequency which affected my alarm, I told him to sort his car out. He didn't so I got under mine & removed the siren & waterproofed the electric plug. My car shows the faults for "no communication to siren" BUT otherwise the alarm works eg the car locks, arms & the immobiliser activates & the lights will flash etc, even leaving the windows down & trying to get to the stereo will cause it to activate, just the lights flash & it's silent!

Thanks for the Info, sometimes goes off as soon as I walk away. Sometimes an hour or 2 after locking. It really is random:-/

Thing is even if I remove the siren the lights will be flashing on the drive, which shine right into next doors bedroom. They've already politely told me a few times its kept them awake.

I've read on a couple of threads that people have had the sirens replaced dye to the internal batteries dying?

I have a code reader but not vcds, would the free vcds version pick potential codes up?

I really want to try and get it sorted rather than a workaround if poss.

I'll give disconnecting the sensors one by one a go and see if that shows anything.

Thanks for the reply:)

I have discovered that a change of weather temperature trips my car alarm, as my car is parked outside on street.

Weather temperature changing from mild and warmish to damp and drizzly colder temperature triggers alarm.

A quick press on second (indoors) key fob button to open doors followed by a press to lock doors button (one press) fixes problem.

Did depress tailgate release (big) black button in and out a few times only seemed to work for a short period and adding some WD40..

I had this a while back, disconnected the bonnet latch sensor and problem solved, just left it off since.

i disconnected the bonnet sensor and it didn't go off all that day, result! i thought but unfortunately it started again the next day.

going to try the internal one if i can get to it next.

it all started after the car didn't run for a few months whilst i was away with work. once i got it all back up and running it started.

could it be the battery on the siren itself?

You need the measured values read . Last 4 alarm triggers will be stored. Each trigger will have a number each number relates to a different source. Ie bonnet, boot latch, interior monitoring, drivers door and so on.

Great info many thanks

Do you know if vcds lite will read them? I have a cable somewhere so should be able to download the free version

Managed to read code 01134 (Alarm horn no communication intermittent) using the free version of vcds.

I think the battery in the siren is goosed, so I'm going to look into getting that replaced

Highly likely that will be it. They last around 6 year's.
