Upgrading brakes

Featured Replies

So i may have started another Fabia as a long term project so wanting to do some research on brakes.

Ideally don't want to run 17", i only want to run 16". So whats the biggest/best brakes for track use?

I've had brembo and AP 4 pots but they will not fit under 16" wheels.

312mm are the front runners, but with decent pads/discs/fluid/hoses are these really going to withstand hard trackday abuse?

Obviously 256mm rears.

I've been out of the Fabia game for 4+ years so other alternatives may have popped up since.

Cheers

4 pots from an Ibiza Cupra fit under 16s don't they?

Are they not AP's which are huge? Probably more chance of fitting Leon Cupra Brembos but still i don't think its doable.

just had a quick google, ibiza brembos might fit under 16s but will need spacers to clear the spoke inners

Them wilwoods would be perfect. Have to do a bit of research as id want something thats rated 300+bhp/ton. Custom brackets can be made up easy. Love the idea of 4 pots as there so light compared to standard single piston/slider setup. [emoji7]

Anyone have experience of 312mm setup on track? What do you use pads/disc/fluid wise and what car/power you running.

I would think 312's would be fine mate, fabia only weights just over 1100kg, it's not a lardy vrs :), maybe see if you can get two piece discs to keep weight down,

my 330mm 6 pots would fit under 16's but would require spacers to clear spokes

Post some pics. Spacers are ok i don't mind them. [emoji108]

ain't got any but bought a set of 16's for a track day and they covered the calliper and discs but inside of spokes wouldn't alloy me to bolt it up, so I sold them on and put my 17's back on

They look close to the barrel. I'll either be running Ibiza FR alloys or 16" steels.

May steels provide more clearance due to there being considerably less material than an alloy?

Not sure. Something im going to have to measure. I have just found this kit though, weights 37 lb for the full kit. My R32 brakes weigh 26 lb each side [emoji16]

Would be interesting if there was a UK source for those :)

What you really need is to take a holiday to the US and bring some back in your luggage.

There is.. Just involves £168 import tax fees [emoji17]

How much does a set of them set you back?

What are the r32 brake set up like?

You have it on the fabia?

I've got a set of cupra r brembos but the cost of them seems to be going up and up on them [emoji30]

Ideally that was what i wanted to upgrade for track use.

You reckon just the front r32 setup would be ok or still too heavy?

I've seen sm1 put them on a mk2 fabia but not on mk1.

You'd need mk4 Golf R32 setup, but i wouldn't have though on track they would be better than 312mm as theyre still one piston but bigger. The weight alone of R32 ones would put me off, there perfect upgrade for road use but thats about it.

They came on the car when I bought it. Thee b32-6 tarox. Weight 2.2 kgs.

R32's are twin piston on mk4's :), they are damn heavy though, you can get two piece discs which would keep weight down but cicra £500 plus just for discs, and only certain 17" wheels fit
