Diesel or Petrol Yeti for 2ok miles per year ?

Featured Replies

Have had my 215bhp Golf GTD DSG for 16 months now and I drive all the time for work - approx 20-25k per year

Now I have a grandson and recently taken up RC planes I find the golf just far too small

I know the government is keen to start hammering diesel owners as are local councils - as diesels are now the spawn of satan for the environment

So I am looking at the Yeti , my first thoughts are the DSG 4x4 170 , but does anyone drive the 1.2tsi and cover similar mileages and have real world MPG figures ??

Probably looking to lease on a 2 year deal as have taken a bath with last new car I bought due to the mileage I have to do

Thanks

Jimbo. Not directly answering your question but the 170s are drying up now. So if you want one on a lease I wouldn't hang about if you find one.

Yes I know they are being replaced with the newer diesel , and have missed some of the really good deals on lease

Not true, you haven't missed the deals. I could actually get better lease deals on the newer 150 engine. Decided to go for one of those instead of the older 170.

Is that a mistake or a mapped figure?

I wouldn't worry about any government anti-diesel moves. Certainly not over the life of a 2 year lease and probably not for the new EU6 deisel engine.

The new 150PS engine is great.

Hi my 1.2dsg does 37mpg and I do 15000 per year. I think coming from golf GTD you would find the 1.2 a little slow. I would expect the 170 4x4 dsg to be better but it is about £5k more. I like my Yeti but sometimes wish it was faster and more economical.

Personally if you are paying for the fuel I would not even consider a Yeti as the aerodynamics are always going to mean it’s a pretty thirsty car (a 170 will give mid 40 MPG... if driven sensibly, go over 65MPH however and this reduces significantly)

The newer Euro6 engines are approx. 20% more efficient in the new Superb, so I expect the Yeti will be similar? however you will need to factor in the cost of Adblue in your area (I can get it at the pump for 60p LTR near me, BUT it can be more than double that)

Have you been to look at one? The reason I ask is that while higher with better ground clearance interior space is pretty similar to a 5 door golf.

Not sure why the Golf would be bad for RC unless you are expecting to fly v large planes? Most .40 size should fit on a back seat I'd have thought (I have an E-flite Apprentice electric that fits there). Golf / Leon / Octavia estate has a good boot size FYI. When you get really keen you get a dedicated trailer for your planes ;-)
