What deals have people got - discounts, pcp, pch

It’s three things:

1) All PCPs are being revalued down because there are too many used cars;

2) Diesels in particular are taking a hit because of the particulate emissions row;

3) Car sales generally dropped last year, so part ex values will absorb part of that hit.

This is what I was told by two Skoda dealers while I negotiated the purchase of my new Superb against the return of a petrol PCP Octavia.

On 2 this is an interesting point. Many of the second hand diesels you see at the moment will be Euro 5 cars, which do have poor emissions in particulates compared to their petrol alternatives. Indeed this is why I am getting rid of my vRS now. If you look at the actual difference between a Euro6 Diesel and Petrol you'll see that the gap is now negligible, when you consider the lower Co2 emissions between the two I'd say that euro6 diesels are probably cleaner than petrol alternatives.

I think long term the diesel issue won't exist for Euro 6 cars, so buying one now in my mind is a great idea as there's a possibility of a shortage in the future based on some people taking a short term view, and in the long run it's likely the Diesel / Petrol balance will probably equal out, certainly there will always be those who like the way diesels drive etc.

You can tell the car industry is probably not concerned about this being a long term issue through the residuals calculations, the diesel 190 4x4 coming in around 12k for the SportLine trim on the balloon payment, higher than the petrol 280....

Be brave when others are not etc etc :) (But protect yourself with a PCP)

There’s definitely some over-reaction against diesel because petrol is hardly as pure as the driven snow.

But you get the sense that we’re approaching a tipping point in terms of where car companies are focusing their main R&D effort - i.e., on longer range batter powered electric vehicles or petrol-electric hybrids.

Right now, poor part-ex prices on diesels is going to translate into some incredible forecourt bargains at some stage.

Just ordered a 1.4Tsi 150 estate, black paint, fold flat front seat, all season tyres, spare wheel, variable boot floor.

£18211 on DTD.   having to travel 300 miles to pick it up but the dealer is 50 miles from my son so will combine a quick visit with the pick up.

12-16 week build time quoted.

I'd been looking for a 150Tsi estate - either Superb or Octavia  up to 2 years old.   Not many come up though.  When my local dealer had a 1.4Tsi Octy estate at £13k I went for a look. Basic blue paint though, no other options bar a spare wheel. Dealer offered webuyanycar price on my trade in and wouldn't budge on sticker price.

So £5 more for a new Superb with a few options looked a better deal.

That’s a lot of car for 18k.

Good work and enjoy your motor.

Looking forward to it. First brand new car for many years.  I usually find it hard to justify the premium over a 1 year old but the equivalent Skoda estate on DTD was 16k for the one the dealer wouldn't budge on at 13k for a 2 yr old car.

Well worth the extra few Ks for a car i know hasn't been smoked in,  hired, crashed etc as well as no tyres, brake pads etc needed for a good while..
