Damaged Steering wheel

Featured Replies

I damaged my steering wheel either with a ring or my watch strap whilst getting out of my car, its a scratch on the steering wheel in 2 places both about 2-3 inches long.

Every time I drive it now I notice it and its really annoying apart from putting a new wheel obviously expensive any ideas anyone who can repair?

That's really annoying; do you have a photo?

I've used the Gliptone Scuffmaster http://www.liquidleather.com/scuffs.htm on our MKI with great success; the colour match they made on the Ivory leather was excellent. I suggest them as I know they do a "standard" black die too which could be worth a try? Do not be tempted to use a perm black marker pen as I've see some idiots suggest!

That looks interesting but its not really the colour thats the problem but more the "feel" as its torn.. I will go and take a photo now...

Wow! That's a real mess! Now I understand what you mean. I think the torn parts will need to eased / pulled back in shape, glued back in place and then dyed. I think an experienced leather trimmer would be your best bet. AJs in Wooburn Green has a really good reputation - http://www.ajtrimming.co.uk.

Many thanks for those suggestions, luckily that AJ place is only 30 minutes down the road so fingers crossed!

cheers

I would buy a new wheel. Refurbish of leather wont be totally the same as the factory one.

At Superskoda it is not extremely expensive this kind of wheel.

Won't notice the repair either and it'll be a darn site cheaper too I suspect, than a new wheel at €170!

I've toyed with the idea of getting mine re-trimmed in alacantara.... softer, grippier and more sporty looking. Or maybe its a bit Max Power!
