ESP and issues on track

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 2006 vRS has the optional ESP fitted to it and it seems to be hindering progress when pressing on, under trackday conditions.

Now whilst the system is always left on for road use, pressing the button to switch it off for track work seems to do the trick until the car starts moving about under very heavy braking. Its as though the system is never quite turned off, its trying to do something to prevent the car moving about.

Question is, can VCDS do anything to switch it all off, ABS included for track driving? With the AP's its all to easy to trigger the ABS under very heavy braking and its easier to modulate the brake feel without the ABS getting in the way.

Or is there a fuse that can be pulled to achieve the same result??

I seem to remember that unticking the option that the car has a steering angle sensor in VCDS will stop ESP working.

Maybe that was for an Octavia though, as I know VCDS changes on the mk1 Fabia are quite limited.

I know of guys running Focus ST's on track that pull the ABS fuse out which disables their ABS (obv) but also the traction control and ESP, just wondered if we had the same facility

Be easier than taking the laptop to trackdays LOL

4th fuse from the left in the box above the battery should stop the ABS pump working, and I think all the other TC/ESP functions 'cos the controller will get in a huff, disable itself completely and put a fault light on (which I imagine you can live with while on track).  Can leave the 'hot' end of the fuse bolted down, and just unbolt the cable from the other end, tyrap it away somewhere that it can't flap onto anything else?
