Looking for advice on a '64 plate Black Edition Octy

Featured Replies

Hello Folks

I'm seriously considering buying this:

http://www.birchwoodgroup.co.uk/skoda/used-cars/4552059-skoda-octavia-5dr-hat-1.6-tdi-105-blk-edn-dsg/#

And am interested if anyone can give me any positive or adverse comments about them.

The paintwork is poor and it'll need detailing.  I'm not worried about its pricing as I'm quite happy negotiating.

It's a 6 speed DSG, a 1.6 and I don't know yet if it's got a DPF.

I nearly bought a new one last year on 0% finance, but bottled it at the last minute.  This time around I'm really interested.

Any comments gratefully received.

TIA

Gaz

It is a diesel engine car so it has a 'diesel particulate filter' unless you are wondering if someone has stolen it.

My wife had a new Octavia 1.6 TDI SE DSG last year. The DSG (it's a 7 speed dry clutch on the 1.6 TDI) really suits the engine power, far better than the 1.6 TDI manual. Driven carefully you can get very good fuel economy 60 to 70+mpg on a gentle run. The boot is plenty big enough, and there's lots of room in the rear.

Personally I think the Black Edition looks great, up there with the vRS.

The wife now has a BMW 320d and apart from the BMW performance (which is very good) we preferred the Octavia, it was only yesterday she said she wished she still had the Octavia, way more practical. We had no choice in changing it as they are company cars.

Thanks cnc   The gumph in the car's window says it's a 2.0 litre as well (which it isn't), and this is at a Skoda dealership

I really like the Black Editions  B)

This car is a 64 plate,

Your diesel engine Superb is a 2005 and Euro 4 Emissions before Euro 5 in 2009 on, and then DPF's became part and parcel of Diesel cars.

I know, I just just don't get the chance to be pedantic very often  :sun:

No offence - I was just being a plank  :bandit:

Are the alloys dirty / covered in brake dust or are they a matt black?

Not shiny enough for me  :sun:

I don't think they're either matt or shiny, more of a silk finish.  But yes, they're in need of proper TLC.  One has a chip out of it and the plastic bolt caps also leave a lot to be desired.  If I do go for it, I think I'm going to get a local detailer to give it a proper going over, including the wheels.

I think the car's just not been prepped properly as some of the marks on the paintwork are glue lines from where the protection paper's been peeled off and not cleaned.

It's in my price range and I'm stupid enough to travel that far for a car

On the back burner, cheers Ben.

Well I'm still interested in it and took it out for a proper test drive today.  Enjoyed the ride and the performance was quite reasonable.

But then we got to talking about the new yellow Octy vRS TSI Estate in their showroom, which I could buy on 0%.  So I took that out of a test drive tonight and really liked it.  Performance not far off my old Saab either - felt like it anyway.

They offered me an 'end of the month' deal - basically a grand off list and £26, 631.  Decided to mull it over and have just been looking a bit more closely.  And now I'm a bit disappointed.

On the Skoda UK configurator, the same model, with the £360 option of Rally Green, tops out at £26,780.  So I'm left wondering where my grand off went?

And then looking around, I find a new hatchback for £21k and a new Race Blue Estate for £23k.

Hmm, suddenly in a bit of a quandary

The Black Edition is still an option and it's more or less ballpark on price, all things considered, but now I don't feel that I'm getting a deal on either.

Maybe I'll go try out the Hyundai iX35 after all - had one as a hire car a few weeks back and really liked it.

Decisions decisions.

I didn't get money off the estate I just bought but by haggling I got just over £2k more for my trade in. Same as a £2k discount in effect. I got prices from carwow and used those to negotiate with

What was the Saab?

What was the Saab?

9-5 HOT Aero: 250bhp version.  Not many of them around any more - not the pre GM ones anyway.

Nice Saab, Gaz.

Mine was a 9-5 2.3t Vector auto, 54 plate. last of the pre-Ednas. Hirsched to 220 and suspension as well. Aero lite. Ran it for 9 years.

The interior is shocking. I paid £2000 more for a brand new Octavia VRS Tdi. pM me of you want the details. Better APR on a new car too!

I'd be looking for a lot more than £1k off a yellow vRS. I've had two previous yellow vRS's,.. the dealers won't want to know on trade in and will crucify you on the value. Make sure you are either desperate for a yellow car, or its rock bottom price or its a keeper, preferably all three, then you won't go far wrong.
