Replacement for an Octy I L&K

Featured Replies

Hi all

sadly last night my 2 yr old Octy L&K got squashed by a tree. Fortunately I walked away unscathed (to the amazement of the fire brigade) but the car is a write off.

This means I am now faced with the dilemma of what to replace it with. The new L&K doesn't really seem to offer that much more than the elegance, plus there seem to be none available and since I have no transport and no courtesy car to tide me over (thanks VERY much Halifax) I need to get a car ASAP to get to work.

Any suggestions as to which Octy II to go for as a worthy replacement? Or even should I look elsewhere? Seat? VW? Mazda?

Really pi**ed off and looking for ideas! :(

The elegance PD140 is a very nice car , but there are some very low mileage Octy I's about still so if you were happy with your L&K you might want to try and track one down.

There's a nice one at a garage in worcester

Ah well , worth trying a search for used cars on the Skoda website to see if there are any a bit closer

As said - the octy 2 elegance 140 tdi is an excellent choice, ive had mine for a few months now and think its great. I had a vrs octy before this one and it has to be said the octy 2 is miles ahead of the old car when it comes to refinement, just closing the door and sitting inside feels like you have gone forward light years.

Get one with leather and driver info system and you will have a car not far off the spec of your L+K. Ive got the sports pack which makes for a hard ride but the gain is much better cornering (if you like that sort of thing) with very little body roll, the 17" pegasus alloys look great too.

Paid

I would say any octy'2 with the 2.0 tdi engine as all have good spec.

thanks, I guess the problem is that I need a car asap as without it I am stranded (30 min walk to nearest bus stop) so I am probably going to be forced into taking whatever I can get at such short notice. Not ideal but sod all choice. Am even considering the non skoda options I am so desperate

Things can't be that bad i hope

Talk to your local Skoda dealer, they have some sort of tie up between dealers to swap s/hand cars as well as some new ones.

Failing that do they have a "cheap trade in" you could use or buy until something else comes up

TBH you're in a strong position and dealers should bend over backwards to please you. You have no P/X and car sales are slow this time of year so get them working for you.

Note you are in Edinburgh

Chathams in Abbeyhill have a range of good used Octy I's. and a umber of Octy2 demonstraters (although I think they are mostly Ambiences).

I traded in an Elegance estate there 3 weeks ago - 2.5 yrs old with 38K miles and a sound car.

They are very obliging to deal with, George Lockhart has sold me my last 3 cars and is a decent bloke to work with.

well just outside, Livingston.

Cheers for the tip, I actually went to Chathams last night as they seem to have the one and only L&K estate in the UK. I tried them last time (2 years ago) when they flatly refused to move off list price, but this time they are being much more obliging. Dealing with Derek Barnes. Still need to wait and see if the Halifax (spit) are going to agree thatthe old one is a write off before I can make a move though.

One of the on line site (broadspeed.co.uk) have put me in toich with a broker who is offering one in 3 weeks at

I've just signed up for a new Elegance and found Horners of Bury could do a discount of
Oh no! The DSG is a factor I hadn't even thought of!! I'll see what I can find out. Trouble is I have little or no time to sort this (I head off to Austria in 2 weeks, back briefly and then supposed to be off to Belfast if I have a car) so there ain't much time to play with. In fairness to Broadspeed I have had 4 different dealers chasing me on the back of their service, all of which I am using to push down the local dealers. Chathams are offering

Also if you are looking around, don’t carry brochures from other dealers around in your car. We used to make an excuse to appraise the trade-ins on our own so we could not only do the job without the owner trying to cover blemishes with excuses, but also so we could hunt around the car for brouchures and see which dealers they had been to previously. Sadly I realise this isn’t really of much use to you this time round. Amazing photos :orb_phew: [/font']

LOL, I've actually been taking Toyota Avensis brochures with me, work has lent me an Avensis fr a couple of days to try to get a new car and I am playing the other brand card. My dealer knows I have never owned anything but a Skoda (1 Skoda 120 Estelle, 2 Favorits, 1 Felicia and 3 Octys) so for them the idea that I would desert the brand seems scarier than other dealers

The Avensis is a good car actually and it IS growing on me, just doesn't have as much kit as the Octy but there are lots of deals on them at the moment.

This is really spooooky. I also had Avensis brochures in my car when I went hunting, as I was wondering if the new 177hp diesel was out yet. I've had a go in a 148bhp diesel Avensis and it's nowhere near as nice or as special as the Octy in my eyes.Perhaps it

Good luck, sure you will love the DSG though if you can find one to test in your short time window. [/font']

hate to keep pushing Chathams, but they were running a DSG demonstater a month ago.

A friend of mine took me to his local Skoda dealer in the North East and let me drive there in his new Discovery Auto (the new 2.7 litre one) and I thought it was fab. But then I managed to test drive an Octy 1.9 DSG and I swear it was even smoother than his 3 ton behemoth. Was won over on the spot about DSG. I

PARDON ME? My 2.0FSI is Sahara beige and everyone here loves it! [And I might be an ol' man but I ain't an ol' woman!]

Best of all you hardly have to clean it. I don't know why' date=' but most dirt doesn't show up on it. I polish up the alloys and whiz over the body with a wet Flunkey, and that's it.[/quote']

Oh lumey, sorry ednmra. I was hoping nobody liked Sahara Beige. Now I'm wondering if it's too late to change from Graphite :( It would have to have the Onyx interior as I need a practical colour inside...lots of mucky friends :) Might ring the dealer on Monday.....

Yes, mine's got the onyx inside - nice easy maintenance. Surprised it didn't have separate removable mats though - got a set at Halfords but think now I'd get the real Skoda ones instead.

BTW the Sahara colour is one of those intriguing ones that looks different in different lights and angles. My old vRS was silver so I wanted a change, and am very pleased with it.

Dear D,

in your position I wld go for a quick sensible 2nd hand deal that gives you time then to make up your mind on a longer time replacement. My sources tell me there's a well looked after vRS Octy available not to far from you, as owner moving on to the new Mk2 shortly!

aha, but since I commute to and from Dundee 3 times a week, the fuel bills on a vRS would kill me, so thanks for the offer but no thanks.

I am still unable to do anything as Halifax still can't decide if the car is a write off! They keep saying "you'll hear tomorrow" and of course tomorrow never comes. They still won't accept my argument that if it's not a write off then it must be under repair and I am due a hire car, at which point they say it's a write off but not definitely so.

I have managed to get West End in Uphall to secure a dark metallic blue L&K for a good price but they need to know by the end of the week and Halifax aren't exactly rushing to make a decision. :thumbdwn:

I still get the use of the company's Avensis as and when I need to run up to Dundee but it is a real dog compared with the Octy.
