PD170 problems again!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm hoping someone may be able to help me out. I've got a 57 plate PD170 VRS estate and in the year of ownership I've had nothing but problems with it! (Already had to fix a knocking front subframe, knocking steering rack, Teves MK60 fault, and I've also just fitted the TTRS rear trailing arm bushes along with some polybush front inner bushes) now the issue in question that I need help with is my car seems to 'regen' too much. So what I believe to be a regen is the cars idle raises to 1k rpm and it doesn't drive very nicely at all, very jumpy and hesitant. So my first instinct was to have my dpf fill state checked using vag com and it came back as only being 2.1% so my question is, is it actually a regeneration I'm experiencing? And if so why is it doing it every 2 or 3 days when the dpf appears to only be 2.1% full?

Any ideas?

Yeah, interesting. Once I got my car checked and the guy said that DPF is in good condition but I often see the same thing as you - when idle, revs go up to 1k rpm. Sometimes I see fuel consumption rising from ~4 l/100 km to ~5 l/100 km for some while (when driving outside the city - it's hard to hear the fans or see any difference in revs). Should be that DPF I suppose. Maybe it regens way more often than people think. When you drive on motorway you won't feel difference in engine revs; you won't hear the fans; you won't smell the burning soot because the smell might have gone when you have reached the destination etc.).

2.0 TDI (CR). The most of mileage is done by long drives so it must get the necessary heat to burn the soot in the DPF.

P.S. Last days I used my car occasionally for short trips and I saw this 1k rpm thing again. After several unsuccesful attempts to regen (at least I think so) it showed that DPF light and "Check the manual". First time in my life :)

Maybe it is only 2,1% full because it does the thing so often :)

Mine regens at least once a week no matter on the journeys. I've actually seen it do it the day after a long run. I also read somewhere leave the car in 5th gear for a while on longer trips as the dpf won't get very hot even in 6th. Not sure if that's correct but it's another option to try.

Cheers for the replys, I'm driving down to the south of France later this week so I'll see how it goes, if I get any grief then I might have to book it in with a vag specialist and see what they say!

Just been out this morning and it's regening again. Despite a 240 mile trip on Sunday. Scanned for any faults yesterday, not specifically for this issue just as it was plugged in to alter some settings but nothing was found. I may have to book it in the garage as well.
