Break lights not working

Featured Replies

Can anyone shed some light in this for me the break lights on my fabia have now randomly stopped working,

I checked the bulbs they are fine and there is no coil light on the dash is there anything it could be

on both sides? or the side where the fuel goes?

Brake pedal switch.

Seconded - brake light switch - common failure

Check fuse 2 in the cabin fusebox, just 'cos fuses are cheaper than brake pedal switches.  Never heard of anyone having this fuse blown though.

I knew it was in the Mk I section when I saw 'break lights'.

Fuse seems fine, how common is this fault

The brake light switch failure? Almost everyone's at least heard of it, although it's usually associated with a flashing glowplug light.

Cheers I'll get this sorted today

Check the guide on here for fitting it also, they can be fiddly.

Thanks I'll have a look at it now

Just a reminder, if you are buying the latest version of this switch, and I think that you should buy new and from VAG as this is a known weak part, then fit as per posting #7 on the guide. That means, fit with pedal fully up, ie in its normal position - and make sure that you feel the switch click when you rotate it in position.
