Auto-dip wing mirror if you have auto dimming

Featured Replies

So I was wondering if my logic could bs right, so with most manufacturers they try and minimise the different parts variations required so I was wondering if maybe they only do three sets of wing mirrors for example

1)Bog standard mirror

2)Folding and heated mirror

3)Above plus auto dimming and auto-dip ????

What do people reckon?'and yes I know some people will straight away say you needed electric seats but as ive never read anybody mention about trying a mirror which had auto dimming feature it could be a possibility because having 4 different variations of mirrors sounds a bit over the top to me.

The dimming just looks like some kind of film on the mirror, so doubt its any big difference in production.

My passenger side mirror dips when I select reverse gear, the mirror adjuster needs to be in the " L " position. Set off forward and the mirror returns to its normal position.  No eletric seats or auto fold mirrors.

I think you can get mirrors that actually dim, not just a film coating

Probably. But on the Octy it looks like a film since the edges dont dim. But I havent really studied it, so I might be wrong.

Not true, it's uses a liquid that's sensitive to electricity, just like an LCD display. As a current is passed through it the liquid darkens.

Ah.. But why is the entire mirror dimmed? There is a thin strip around the edge that doesnt dim.

Substrate housing for the part that is photo sensitive.

You learn something new every day.

I don't think my vRS dips... Is the dipping only on certain models?

If it's a MKIII Vrs it can be done via VCDS

works on my SEL

Stock (unless you have memory seats) no Octavia gets passenger mirror dipping....it can be coded but as the Octavia doesnt have the memory mirror motor I gather it is only able to remember up and down (x plane) changes and not left and right.

All Mk7 Golfs with folding mirrors have the memory mirror and it is able to adjust on X & Y planes and always returns to its original position. More hit and miss on cars without the mirror motor.

You can however retrofit the memory motor if you can source one....you can even install in both mirrors and code them to both be able to dip if you are so enclined.
