Touch screen protector

Featured Replies

I'm due to get my new car next week and I'm worried about the touch screen as most touch screens eventually look grubby and worn and I don't want to risk it getting scratched. Has anyone fitted a screen protector to the touch screen? What sort did you use?

Does the screen have a matt anti-reflective reflective finish or shiny gloss finish? I presume the dealer removes any protective films fitted during production before the car is handed over?

My dealer left the original screen protector on the Fabia - however - it was about 5mm too small, all round. Peculiar!

So - measured screen (it's the Swing radio - 5" diagonal) and went looking on eBay -- got cheapo 5.5" protectors for iPhone 6, - 99p for 5 !

Then, I cut one to fit, used a paper guillotine (didn't trust my scissors skills !) and it fitted perfectly.

And have 4 spares.

If I can find them in 3 years time when needed!

Job done.

Bigger protectors for tablets or big Samsung mobiles should be good for the Bolero/Amunsdens etc...

On my mk2FL I had a anti glare one on it from eBay. Worked well and went along to its new owner with the head unit.

My car is 40 months old and a quick polish quickly makes the touch screen look like new.

Mine is coming up to 2 years old and no marks or scratches, just a quick clean with screen spray & a microfibre does the job. Mind you the screen is capacitive so don't always have to touch it.

That's good to know. Maybe the ones I've seen just haven't been cleaned enough. Would be interesting to see what it's like after 80 months though. I've had my current car 9 years. No touch screens in there.

If it helps to calm your fears, no marks on the 5 year old, 70k mile Bolero fitted to my MkII Octy Scout.

I just use dash cleaner on a microfibre cloth and it comes up gleaming.

Word of warning if fitting a screen protector; I have one fitted to my Samsung S5, and it sometimes takes a couple of prods to react. It's not a cheap one either, Tech 21, about £20 fitted. Also not sure how the screen would cope if you ever had to remove the protector for whatever reason.

The protectors listed at http://www.protectionfilms24.com/products/screen-protectors/article-selection.html?geraeteklasse=102&marke=Skoda&modell=13722 look good, if a little pricey. There are levels of anti-reflectivity to choose from and I'm wondering how anti-reflective the standard screen is.

I've been using similar protectors on phones for years without any problems, but phones are exposed to scratches much more than screens in cars. I wouldn't dream of using a phone without protection for the screen, which is why I thought I should do something for the car. Interestingly the manual says, "To protect the screen, you can use a suitable screen protector for touchpads that does not affect its functionality."

Haven't used a touch screen protector on my phone for years and I have been using my current phone heavily for the last two years (using it now in fact!)

Anyway my point is that on a phone with a glass screen there really is no reason to use a screen protector. However I don't think the screen on the unit is glass?

If they make them for the new size screen on my current car, I will certainly get some :)

They do. They're described as being for the 2015 Amundsen, but the Bolero screen is the same.

  • 2 weeks later...

Do not get the ones I linked above, it appears they don't fit the new amundsen screen (too small).

If anyone has got some that are a known fit for MY16 amundsen screen please link  :)

In almost two years I've had no scratches with no screen protector fitted. Just a wipe now and again and its fine.
