Replacement Alloys: Definitive Q&As.

Featured Replies

Judging by what I've read in the forums, 17" are the optimum, whilst 18s require re-modelled arches etc. to avoid rubbing/harsh ride/impaired performance.

So be it. 17s it is, so..........

1) Where's the cheapest/best place(s) to get wheel/tyre combos from?

2) If 17" diameter is the realistic limit, what about the width: 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5?

3) What's the relationship between tyre size and width ie. 205s, 215s etc?

To summarise, whats the biggest, widest, fattest combination I can go for?

I think I should sort this before booking in at JBS for springs/lowering and laser alignment.

I currently have 18x8 wheels on my fabia vrs, sat on -25mm eibach springs, and 215x35x18 rubber. No rubbing, no mods needed. Ride isn't harsh either, and performance is negligable. If I was buying again, i would buy 18x7 so the tyre looks better on the rim, but thats all.

1) Try Wheelbase's e-bay shop

2) 7-8 is fine

3) 215/205 is the cross sectional width (how wide) 40/45 etc is the profile (a percentage of the width)

And 8 x 18" wheels fit with no modifications and no rubbing with 215/35 18 tyres.

Usually if going for 17's you want 205 or 215/40 17's depending on wheel width.

ALL OF THE ABOVE INFO CAN BE FOUND IF YOU USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

Wheelbase are doing RS-6 18s with 225/40/18 tyre combos.

I take it the '40' makes these a no-go? :(

.

Just to clarify: 225/45/17 (another 'Wheelbase' combo deal).

Is the '45' prohibitive for the Furby?

Still no good..

width and profile are too big

With Combo deals watch out for the tyres used, some drive prices down by fitting cheap tyres

Also different Alloy qualities are used in wheels, My previous wheels were woolfrace urban racers but I buckled 3 in just over a year.

I now run Cesams, a tadge more expensive but in 18 months including 2 cannonballs & a few track days they are all still straight

Some places will do agood deal on a 5th wheel, handy to have a spare the same & you have one replacement when you kerb the first one

Also try Paul at http://www.affinitywheels.co.uk/

How about 205/45 17 ? i know it would be bad for the speedo but i need biger sidewall cause of the bumps.

Just a note re. RS6 alloys. The offset is ET33 IIRC which means that 18x8 wheels will stick out close to the arches, much more than the std. furby ET37 offset.

Although some may like the look of the wheels sticking out more, by 23mm by my calculations, it's not to everyones tastes

Chowy, help me out here.

I'm gonna play it safe: How does this sound,

RS6 replica 17x7.5 wheels from 'Wheelbase'.

As ross said wheelbase on ebay is a very good shop. Got my alloys which may I add have gone out of production or atleast that what every other place told me when I was looking for them! Very friendly staff, though it's a bu99er to find lol

Buy them with no tyres mate. Then when your wheels arrive, go to a tyre place and get good ones that are the right size. That would be my advice.
