Possibly a daft question, but what causes the headlights to do the self levelling sweep on cars with OEM xenons?

 

It must be a coding option somewhere, or do the OEM xenons have a different levelling motor that does it when power is first applied?

 

I wonder if it can be coded into a car with a HID kit? Maybe if the adjuster wheel with only the internal dimmer was fitted the car would accept the coding?

 

 

 

I suspect that is a function of the Xenon leveling ECU - there is a specific module if you have OEM Xenons that handle the auto leveling using the front and rear sensors.

 

So unless you retrofit the sensors loom and ecu - no can do.

It's the xenon controller checking the 2 or 4 limits that the motor can move the lights to and the then choosing a neutral point. Basically makes sure the lights are point where it thinks they should be and that the motors are in working order. I wouldn't expect any component on a halogen setup to be able to add this functionally.

 

In theory you could add a small circuit between the headlamp level switch and the headlamps but I wouldn't bother. It'll add extra wear to the level motors and I doubt it will be anywhere near as fast as the real dance.

I didn't think about the possibility of another ECU.

 

They will stay as they are then

the afs control unit does all this, in combination with the front and rear sensors.

the unit sits behind the climatronics controls in the mk2 octavia.

correct - different control unit with the pre-facelift.

 

startup sequences between the two:-

pre-facelift = down / up

facelift = down / left / right / up
