Superb III my findings.

Featured Replies

Update.

1. Sort of trying to get used to ACC (auto cruise control) but personally I prefer "just" ordinary CC as I do not like that you can undertake if the car in front of you moves out of your lane. In just cruise I found it nicer to use than my present CC.

2. Noticed that the fuel filter top is now flush and not recessed so that water cannot collect there.

3. Memory seat control are further back than before and it might be just me but once I had set the seats I had to hold the button to move the seat where as mine it is just one push and it moves the whole way. This is with the engine running or not and a quick look in the manual did not shed any light on how or if it could.

4. When my pictures are uploaded they will show the battery (68AH, 680A which I thought would be bigger because of stop start) and most parts of the car inside and out.

5. The front ashtray space goes back quite a long way but a nice touch is the soft one touch closeure, not opening though.

6. When driving it feels tighter not just because it is new but I feel that where my Superb II was a step up from my Superb I in braking, going around corners etc that the Superb III is equally an improvement in road maners/handling over the Superb II, I knopw that people would assume that it is an improvement but it gives much more confidence on the road.

7. Coming into work this morning I did notice that it was noisier on some road surfaces than my S II but quieter on others. It has Pirelli tyres 235/45/18's on.

8. As has been noted there are a lot more soft touch materials.

So far I must admit I have been quite impressed with it.

I will try to think of other things to comment/notice before I return it this afternoon.

9. Nice touch again. There is a hidden flap in the cetre console which which may take a slim phone.

10. I do like the electric hand brake when you come to say a set of lights. Your apply the "HB" and the engine stops (up to temp etc.), lights change and you simply touch the throttle and you pull away as the "HB" automatically dis-engages. Even if stop/start has not stopped the engine, when you apply the throttle the "HB" again dis-engagaes.

11. I thought it was noisier at stand still than mine until when getting back into mine I started my car and the S iii is quieter.

12. Like the position of the USB port as well.

13. A question was ask if the battery was of a "gel" type, it does not appear so and when then photo's are uploaded there is a picture of the cars battery.

14. My neighbour asked me what car it was that I had and he was very impressed with whole package. His car is a BMW estate.

I had an electronic handbrake in a Renault Laguna which behaved exactly like you describe (without the stop/start engine part) and when I queried it in an earlier thread on electronic handbrakes it was said that the handbrake engages automatically when the vehicle is stationary.

Can you confirm if that's the case at all? I prefer the idea of just flicking the paddle-switch to engage it as that's what I was used to doing before out of habit - I'm not a "hold the footbrake and blind the person behind with my brake lights at night" kinda guy.

I tried the HB and SS loads of different ways and not once did the HB come on its own. I had the electronic HB on an Insignia Elite a couple of years ago so was familiar with it. I have tried to "break" it down for those that have not come across it.

Thanks Danny. Pleased, nay Happy, that it works the way I'd prefer it.

Thanks Danny for all the updates and photos - the secret compartment is something had't seen before (and I've done alot of research)

Is the phonebox big enough for some of the bigger phones about - S6/ Iphone 6+ etc as it looks like 5" + phones will be a struggle

I don't think so. When I had a look at one the other day, it looked to be pretty much the size of a normal ashtray. Maybe a 'phonebox' ashtray will be bigger??

I know the camera/flash/lighting will have made this worse, but are there just too many shades of grey/black in all the different bits around the floor/console? Wonder what the L&K brown/black/grey/grey/beige will feel like!

It is just my "slight" lack of photographic professional acumen me thinks because in real life I thought it was quite good and I have the L&K, therefore brown interior.

A bit late in the day to be asking, but did you happen to notice if the door mirrors can now be set to automatically fold, or is it still like the Superb II where you need to turn the rotary switch?

I hope its both...because without a switch of some sort, you wouldn't be able to drive into your garage with the mirrors folded in.

Manual, p. 82: Fold in both mirrors housings, to fold back move the knob to another position. I had much the same concern about the garage!

Yes they did fold and on just a touch of the button, no holding for two seconds as the S II very please that small thing had been altered.

Thanks for all the photos and taking the time to share your views.

I thought the new Superb had "Autohold"?

On the Passat this holds on the hydraulic brake pressure when you come to a stop and releases it when you pull away. There's no need to use the Electric Handbrake unless you are parking up.

On the Passat you can set this on as default or select it on each drive.

Unfortunately, as I have discovered after talking to Škoda UK, not everything in the manual can be taken as gospel.

The downloadable owners manual is simply an english language translation of the international manual so not everything in the manual will apply to the UK market models.

A subtle hint is that the illustrations all show a LHD vehicle and speed is shown in km/h. In fact the only references to mph is regarding the emergency spare wheel and that a speed limit sign displayed in "Traffic sign recognition" may refer to km/h or mph depending which country you're in.

One can but hope that the important parts are relevant, like the auto-hold description, or it's going to be "But officer, there should have been auto-hold when I jumped the red light - it's the car's fault!"

That said, it is shown in Danny's pictures ((A)) next to the electronic handbrake.

I think you're spot on..

However, the "(A)" button must be selected in the centre console for it to do its thing!

Oh and, not sure if/how it works on manuals...

I can’t see a TPMS reset button??

Apparently that's now in the infotainment system in the CAR menu. It seems it's still the ABS-related circumference measurement type.

At times when I pulled up to lights or cars in front I just used the foot brake and if the SS was activated the engine would stop. When releasing the foot brake the engine would restart and I would pull away. I did not notice any movement in the car so maybe the brake was holding the car before pulling away. All in all I did just over 170 miles with a lot of motorway and a lot of town traffic especially to use the SS set up.
